Texas made a real run at Dre Quinn. As he returned home from Austin over the weekend, the Longhorns may had the edge in this recruitment for about 24 hours. The four-star EDGE out of Buford (Ga.) pushed his commitment date back, and after thinking about it more, he decided he wanted to play for Dabo Swinney in Death Valley.

“When I was on my official visit to Clemson earlier this summer, I told coach Rumph that I was going to be a Tiger and I want to honor my word,” Quinn told On3.

Honoring that word meant a lot to Quinn. On Monday, he was thinking it could go another way. After letting things settle down, he knew what was right.

“I can’t even explain it, there is something different about Clemson. They have been a top school for me for a while. It was them at Notre Dame, then them at Georgia Tech, then them at Texas – Clemson was always in the top two for me. They have been consistent, and a lot of the time, they were No. 1.

“The way it is so tight-knit up there made a big impact on me. I like what coach Dabo has built on family and faith. The brotherhood is real at Clemson.”

The family feeling is what did it for the No. 274 prospect in the country.

“It is different than every other program at Clemson,” Quinn said. “The coaches and the players create that family-like atmosphere. It is more than football there. You are a real person at Clemson, you just aren’t someone with a number on a jersey and the coaches create that environment.

“Everyone is a family. I can talk to coach Rumph about anything. Peter Woods and I talk a lot and it is not even about Clemson. It is a great environment to be in and when I go there, I feel like part of the family.”
