Conroe (Texas) five-star cornerback Dorian Brew was set to come off the board at the end of January. Entering 2024, Ohio State was considered the heavy favorite to land a commitment from the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder.

However, Brew opted to postpone his Jan. 24 decision. He has since not rescheduled a commitment date as he continues to field interest from some of the best programs in the nation. The Buckeyes still hope to land the DB, though.

“For (OSU DBs coach) Tim Walton, that’s the last big piece of his puzzle at the cornerback position. Brew had a commitment date set for January 24, had he not postponed that, he would be an Ohio State Buckeye right now,” Ohio State insider Matt Parker said on ‘The Inside Scoop’. “Ohio State’s cornerback class would be solidified and over with.”

Not only would the cornerback class be over with, it would be beyond stellar. The Buckeyes already have pledges from Birmingham (Ala.) Parker Five-Star Plus+ CB Na’eem Offord and Houston North Shore five-star CB Devin Sanchez, the top two players at the position in the 2025 cycle. Not to be outdone, the class also features Baltimore St. Frances four-star CB Blake Woodby, the No. 8 overall corner.

Brew beginning to trend elsewhere

Chalk it up to a potentially loaded DB room in Columbus, or the pursuit of other programs, but now adding Brew to the fold doesn’t seem as locked in as it once did for the Buckeyes. The likes of Texas, LSU and USC are among those also pushing for his pledge.

“As it goes in recruiting, nothing ever happens to plan. (Brew) pushed back the commitment date, actually postponed it and hasn’t rescheduled one yet. Now, the Buckeyes are facing some steep competition,” Parker said. “A lot of different schools have entered this race for Dorian Brew, specifically Texas. I look at LSU and USC has emerged as a contender in this race.”

“The one-time in-state prospect for Ohio State is now out in Texas and the competition is tough for Ohio State as we move forward into spring visits.”

Brew is now the No. 16 overall prospect and No. 4 corner in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 5 player in Texas.

“(Brew) is an Ohio State legacy with his mother being in the track Hall of Fame in Columbus, but this one has been trending away from the Buckeyes for over a month,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote in February. “LSU, Texas and USC are to watch heading into the spring.”
