Alabama and Oklahoma certainly have different vibes from outside right now. The Sooners are hyper focused on this game while the Crimson Tide faithful are hearing about Kalen DeBoer to Michigan rumors.
“Outside of knowing that there was a question or two I think at the end of last week, it’s been non-existent,” DeBoer said. “I mean, it really has. Our guys are focused on Oklahoma. They really are. I mean, that’s what we’ve been completely focused on. I haven’t seen anything other than that. Again, these guys deal with noise and they know that that’s what it is. What’s internal is what matters.”
Alabama-Oklahoma set for CFP First Round
DeBoer is in his second season at the helm of Alabama. He replaced longtime head coach Nick Saban after the 74-year-old retired in January 2024. In his debut campaign at Alabama, DeBoer led the Crimson Tide to a 9-4 overall record and a 5-3 mark in conference play.

The team narrowly missed out on a CFP berth. In turn, many fans criticized DeBoer, naturally contrasting the season against Saban’s success. Nonetheless, DeBoer bounced back, guiding the Crimson Tide to a 10-2 regular-season record and an SEC Championship game appearance.
But one of those losses in the regular season came at home to Oklahoma. Can Alabama win the rematch? It’s certainly a possibility.
That self-evaluation has been a major focus for Oklahoma since learning they would see Alabama again. Venables acknowledged that while the Sooners played with effort and toughness in the first meeting, the execution wasn’t always up to standard.
“We didn’t always play or coach in the cleanest kind of way and to our expectations,” head coach Brent Venables added. “So what I can appreciate the most is the first day that I brought this to the attention of the team. … I thought our guys received it very well in a very hungry, driven, humble way.”
