J.D.'s CFP Rankings 11-05

The latest AP Poll top 25 rankings were released after Week 10 of the college football regular season and things are getting tight down the stretch.

The national title contenders pretty much took care of business but some others dropped some surprising games. The herd is thinning at the top now.

Let’s dive into the latest rankings from the AP Poll top 25 after Week 10 of the college football season.

1. Georgia

(Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports)

Georgia once again silenced any doubters with another ranked win despite the low strength of schedule. Missouri gave the Bulldogs a fight, but the two-time champions pulled away in the end.

Georgia remained undefeated on the road to a three-peat in 2023. The 30-21 win over the Tigers was highlighted by another good game from Carson Beck: 254 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions.

2. Michigan

(Kirthmon F. Dozier / USA TODAY NETWORK)

Michigan improved to 9-0 on the season with a dominant win over Purdue. It was pretty much clockwork as the Wolverines have yet to be challenged all season long.

Connor Stalions was fired, but the train keeps moving for Jim Harbaugh and company amid the NCAA investigation. It’s basically wait and see with any potential punishment. But until then, get out of the Wolverines’ way.

3. Ohio State

(Adam Cairns_Columbus Dispatch _ USA TODAY NETWORK)

Ohio State had a battle against Rutgers in Piscataway, but the defense took over in the second half. The 35-16 win was highlighted by a pick-six by Jordan Hancock and two touchdowns from Marvin Harrison Jr.

Rutgers gave the Buckeyes a fight at first and it wasn’t until the stifling Ohio State defense took over that the CFP’s top team took over. Kinks in the armor? Maybe, but that defense is outstanding.

4. Florida State

(Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports)

It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the Seminoles got it done once again to stay undefeated. The ACC’s top dog got a good performance from Jordan Travis, who tossed for 360 yards and a score. He also ran for one.

Trey Benson did what he does on the ground, running for 97 yards and a score. This certainly looks like a playoff team and clearly the best team in the ACC. If FSU keeps it up, the final four is easily achievable.

5. Washington

(Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports)

Michael Penix Jr. may have added to his Heisman Trophy campaign with the win over Caleb Williams, but Washington dominated on the ground in the shootout. Plus, it kept the Huskies undefeated.

The night belonged to Dillon Johnson, who ran 26 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns. With that, Washington dampened USC’s Pac-12 title chances and remained undefeated. The impending rematch with Oregon, barring a little chaos, is going to be sweet.

6. Oregon

(Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports)

Speaking of Oregon, the Ducks kept it rolling with a dominant victory over Cal. It wasn’t even close. Again, Oregon kept pace with the Pac-12’s top team: Washington.

Dan Lanning and crew want a rematch and chance to win the conference and get to the CFP. Boy, they are super close and this is a dangerous football team going into the final three weeks of the regular season.

7. Texas

(Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK)

Texas got it done once again without Quinn Ewers as Maalik Murphy did enough once again. A missed kick and failed fourth down were the difference in the overtime win over Kansas State.

The Wildcats were a ranked team going in, so it was nothing to scoff at. But that had to have been a huge sigh of relief for Steve Sarkisian and crew. Still, the Longhorns are at the top of the Big 12 in November. A welcome sight in Austin.

8. Alabama

(Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports)

Jalen Milroe and Jayden Daniels put on a show, but the Alabama quarterback owned the night at home. Alabama’s huge win over LSU almost all but assured the division title and a return to the SEC Championship.

Milroe threw for 219 yards and ran for 155 on the ground to go along with four rushing touchdowns. A fantastic performance and the Crimson Tide look like a playoff contender once again.

9. Penn State

(Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports)

Now that’s what Penn State needed. It was a dominant win on the road against Maryland, 51-15, led by quarterback Drew Allar. Arguably his best game, he threw for 240 yards and four touchdowns.

Penn State will host Michigan next weekend. It’ll be a huge spot for James Franklin and company. Right now, Penn State is keeping pace at the top, but the team will need that one next week to be a legit contender.

10. Ole Miss (+1)

(Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports)

Ole Miss was getting a little juice this weekend with its recent run and LSU having a chance against Alabama. Well, the Tigers lost and Ole Miss just squeaked by Texas A&M.

Still, Lane Kiffin and company are 8-1 now and have an outside shot at the division, but Alabama would have to lose two SEC games. Looking at the schedule, that means Alabama has to lose to Kentucky and Auburn. Not sure about that.
