Ar'maj Reed-Adams calls Texas players 'cowards' for stomping on Texas A&M logo after 2024 win

The hostile Lone Star Showdown rivalry series between Texas and Texas A&M was forcibly renewed last season after a bitter 13-year hiatus that coincided with the Aggies’ jump to the SEC in 2012. Of course, the Longhorns eventually followed suit last year, and the acrimonious rivarly series was revived with Texas’ 17-7 road victory Nov. 30, 2024 in College Station.

Of course, whenever the road team wins such a bitter rivalry, the victors often find ways to pour a little extra salt on the wound. Michigan players literally planted their flag at midfield of Ohio Stadium following a fourth-consecutive win over rival Ohio State last season, sparking a brawl that police had to break up with pepper spray.

And while the Texas-A&M rivalry didn’t involve any punches thrown last season, multiple Longhorns players were seen stomping on Kyle Field’s midfield logo following the victory. Texas coaches — including head coach Steve Sarkisian — quickly put a stop to the postgame activity, but the disrespect didn’t go unnoticed inside the Aggies locker room.

A year later, as No. 3 Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC) prepares for Friday night’s Lone Star Showdown (7:30 pm ET, ABC) inside Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Aggies senior offensive lineman Ar’maj Reed-Adams described the 17th-ranked Longhorns (8-3, 5-2 SEC) as “cowards” when reminded of their postgame sacrilege during a Tuesday media session in College Station.

“A few things, but we’ll get it handled. I don’t want to speak on nobody,” Reed-Adams said after a reporter asked about the Aggies’ desire for revenge, via GigEm247’s Carter Karels. “Yeah, you know, cowards do what cowards do.”

Follow last season’s victory, Texas has won two straight and four of the last five in the Lone Star Showdown, and holds a 77-37-5 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 1894. That said, Texas A&M has won two of the last three games played in Austin, including a 24-17 victory in 2010, the last time DKR hosted the rivalry.

Steve Sarkisian: Texas-Texas A&M rivalry deserves to stand alone in spotlight

Steve Sarkisian is eager for Texas–Texas A&M to have a national spotlight on Friday as the two teams renew their rivalry in Week 13. Kickoff in Austin is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Sarkisian and others are glad this rivalry is back. And with the Aggies at No. 3 in the latest CFP rankings and just a win away from securing the program’s first-ever SEC Championship appearance, it’s a chance for the Longhorns to earn, perhaps, a season-altering victory while spoiling things for their hated rivals.

“I like that (for) this game that we get an opportunity to stand alone,” Sarkisian said. “Okay, so whether it’s Thanksgiving or Friday after Thanksgiving, I just think this game deserves the spotlight to stand alone, and the fact that we’re playing on Friday night with all the eyes of college football on it, really the football world on this game. I think this game deserves that. So whatever that looks like. Again, I’m not the decision maker on that. But I do think this is a great opportunity for us.

“You know, last year we were a Saturday night game, and we were up against some other games. So this year, being Friday night, I think it is good for the game.”
