WATCH: Big 12 conference announces date for 2023 football schedule release

A new era is upon us in the Big 12, with four new teams joining the conference for the 2023 season. Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF will come from the American Athletic Conference, while BYU was a top independent program — adding to an already stacked 10-team league.
Texas and Oklahoma are scheduled to leave the conference in the near future but at least one season will be played in the new-look Big 12. Fourteen teams will feature next year, with intrigue over how the conference will manage a new scheduling format. We will finally get answers on Tuesday.
A full schedule release has been announced by the Big 12, coming at 1 p.m. CT on Jan. 31. For the fans in Cincinnati, Morgantown, and Orlando, 2 p.m. local time is when to be on the lookout. Provo will have a mid-day treat, with Power Five schedule being put on the desk at noon MT.
The Big 12 released a hype video alongside the announcement of the schedule release. Highlights from the 2022 season were shown, alongside teasing the four new teams entering the conference.

Unfortunately for the Big 12, we may already know one team’s full schedule. TCU accidentally leaked its schedule before quickly deleting it from the official website. Even so, an early sneak preview of how the Horned Frogs will line up after an appearance in the national championship game.
Major storylines to come from Big 12 schedule release
Transition would be the word to describe the Big 12 over the next few years, with four coming into the conference and two leaving. Getting matchups between the six programs before those in Austin and Norman leave for the SEC could be a priority from the league office.
Another team from the state of Texas will be added to the equation as well, with Houston joining. Some old Southwest Conference rivalries will be renewed based on their schedule, with a home game against the Longhorns and Horned Frogs reportedly already on the schedule.
