Big 12 removes officiating crew from Week 3 assignment after major mistake in Kansas vs. Missouri

A mistake was made by the officiating crew that was on the field for the Border War this past weekend in Kansas vs. Missouri. With that, the Big 12 has taken them off of their next assigned game for this week.
The Big 12 released a statement on the decision regarding that crew of officials on Tuesday morning. It has also since been reported on by On3’s Brett McMurphy.
“Big 12 announces its officials in Saturday’s Kansas-Missouri game allowed a punt to occur on a free kick in violation of Rule 2 Section 16 Article 6 of NCAA Football rules,” McMurphy tweeted out this morning. “That Big 12 officiating crew has been removed from its next scheduled assignment this Friday.”
“The Big 12 officials in Saturday’s Kansas-Missouri game allowed a punt to occur on a free kick in violation of Rule 2 Section 16 Article 6 of the NCAA Football rules,” read the release from the conference. “That Big 12 officiating crew has been removed from its next scheduled assignment on Friday, September 12.”
In that release, a Big 12 official said they felt that this crew did not meet the standard set by their league with this error in CoMo. That’s why they went with this action to pull them off of their next duties in week three.

“We believe we have one of the best officiating programs in college football,” Big 12 Chief Football & Competition Officer Scott Draper said in the statement. “When the Conference’s high standard for officiating is not met, the Big 12 will take action.”
In the first edition of the Border War since 2011, Missouri won 42-31 over Kansas in Columbia on Saturday. The Jayhawks got off to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers came back from there as they more than doubled them in yardage with 595 overall. QB Beau Pribula played well in his first full start as he was 30-39 (76.9%) for 334 yards and three touchdowns, but Mizzou really outgained them in the run game as RBs Jamal Roberts and Ahmad Hardy combined for 255 yards and two touchdowns to create a 261-28 edge in rushing yardage.
The Big 12, while not announcing which game they were pulled from, has a pair of games on Friday with Colorado vs. Houston and Kansas State vs. Arizona. However, Colorado vs. Houston is actually a conference game while Kansas State vs. Arizona isn’t as their matchup was scheduled prior to Arizona’s arrival in the league as part of realignment.
