There are no current announcements about a restart time, but On3 will provide further information as it becomes available. BYU led 14-7 late in the first quarter at the time of the delay.
“Due to lightning in the area, we are now under a weather delay,” an official statement from Arizona on Twitter read. “We ask that fans please exit the seating area and seek shelter. We will provide updates as they become available.”
BYU raced out to an early lead in the contest, with the favorite executing sharply in the opening stages of the game. Explosive plays were on the menu for the Cougars.
The opening scoring drive included a 16-yard pass from Bear Bachmeier to Preston Rex to get the ball into comfortable scoring range. Then, two plays later, LJ Martin broke off a 28-yard run to make it 7-0 BYU.

On a drive shortly after, Martin broke off a 10-yard gain to get the drive going deep in the Cougars’ own territory. Two plays later, Bachmeier launched a 75-yard touchdown pass to Parker Kingston to extend the lead to 14-0.
Arizona would get on the board late in the quarter with an eight-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. Four plays went for 10 yards or more on the drive, with the Wildcats eating up chunks of yardage rather quickly.
BYU allowed Arizona to score when it coughed up a 17-yard touchdown pass from Noah Fifita to Kris Huston. That cut the deficit to 14-7, where the game remained at the time of the lightning delay.
Entering the game on Saturday night, BYU sat inside the top 25, one of the leading contenders to win the Big 12 this season. The team sported a 5-0 record. Arizona is at 4-1, though it has already lost one game in conference play. Suffice it to say the stakes are high on Saturday night.
