California lands a commitment from in-state athlete Ernest Nunley
Anaheim (Calif.) Western athlete Ernest Nunley received offers from 15 schools, including California. The Golden Bears offered the 6-foot-0, 165-pound recruit on May 9 following a private workout.
Since then, head coach Justin Wilcox and his staff stayed in “consistent contact” with Nunley. The talented prospect eventually returned to Berkeley for an official visit on June 13 and less than two weeks later, he has committed to the ACC program.
“I knew I was going to choose California when I was sitting in a meeting with coach Allen Brown and coach Terrence Brown during my official visit,” Nunley told On3. “They were breaking down their plan for me and what they would do to make me better. They also showed me how they train defensive backs there. They reminded me of some of my defensive backs coaches. Also, both of them understand what it’s like to play defensive back at a high level.”
Nunley chose California over UCLA and UNLV. He is looking forward to playing for Wilcox, Terrence Brown – the Golden Bears’ co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach – and Allen Brown, California’s co-defensive backs coach.

“The three biggest things I love about California are the coaching staff – especially coach Allen Brown and coach Terrence Brown – the family environment there and the quality of education,” Nunley said.
“I can tell that coach Wilcox is a great guy and a great coach,” he added. “He played defensive back in college, so he can relate to the defensive backs and he’s a defensive-minded coach.”
