No. 9 Texas (3-1, 0-0 SEC) opens SEC play Saturday in Gainesville against a struggling Florida (1-3, 0-1 SEC) still seeking its first conference win of the season after dropping its own SEC opener to LSU three weeks ago. Both teams were on a bye last weekend.

The Longhorns enter the game as a 5.5-point road favorite over the Gators, according to BetMGM. Florida has lost three straight while Texas is riding a three-game win streak after opening the season with a disappointing 14-7 loss at Ohio State.

This is a pivotal game for both programs as each tries to reverse course following a difficult start to the 2025 season. Gators head coach Billy Napier is once again facing serious hot seat consideration due to the team’s early-seasons struggles, making his future in Gainesville even more perilous with each loss.

Texas is hopeful to get back several key playmakers on both sides of ball this week, including last year’s leading rusher, Tre Wisner. The 6-foot, 194-pound junior tailback started the season opener at Ohio State, rushing for 80 yards on 16 carries in the game, but has missed Texas’ last three games due to a leg injury. Wisner’s return would be important with veteran running back CJ Baxter listed as “doubtful” in Thursday’s report and expected to sit out Saturday, according to On3‘s Pete Nakos.

Former Stanford transfer receiver Emmett Mosley V is expected to make his season debut with the Longhorns after being limited through the first month of the season by a lower body injury suffered in preseason camp. Mosley transferred to Austin after leading all ACC freshmen with 48 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns for Stanford last season.

Florida receiver Dallas Wilson is expected to make his season debut Saturday after missing the first five weeks with a lower-leg injury suffered in August, according to Nakos.

Meanwhile, host Florida has already ruled out seven players based on Thursday’s availability report, including running backs Ja’Kobi Jackson and Treyaun Webb. Jackson is the Gators’ second-leading rusher this season behind starter Jadan Baugh with 98 rushing yards on 27 carries this season.

Those injuries at running back are also, likely, going to put more pressure on quarterback DJ Lagway to perform. Following their loss to Miami, Lagway had reportedly been in a walking boot. That’s after he missed the Texas game a season ago with a different injury. Luckily, it appears he’ll be able to go this year, though it’s a tough task for a quarterback who has struggled with turnovers and consistency in the first month of the season.
