College Football Playoff Prediction: CBS Sports projects first CFP Top 25 after Week 5
On3

The latest College Football Playoff predictions are here from CBS Sports. They projected the top 25 rankings after Week 5 with the full slate.

The four conference champs from the Power Four are all within the top five seeds, but one does not get a bye. The rest of the slate makes for exciting matchups in the first round.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the latest College Football Playoff predictions from CBS Sports. We’ll start with the top of the rankings.

1. Ohio State (Big Ten Champion)

Ohio State is the projected No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. At this rate, they’ll go 13-0, win the Big Ten and be the top team in the bracket.

The defending champions have proven through four games that they are more than capable of repeating as champions. The QB was the biggest question and Julian Sayin has been more than efficient so far!

2. Miami (ACC Champion)

The Hurricanes are on their way to going to 13-0 as well, winning the ACC. But their resume would be just behind Ohio State in these College Football Playoff predictions.

The Hurricanes have a massive game against Florida State on the road this weekend and that could shake things up. Mario Cristobal and crew could just take care of business.

3. Ole Miss (SEC Champion)

How about the Rebels after Week 5? Ole Miss is 5-0, just beat LSU and Lane Kiffin and crew are rolling right now.

CBS projected them to win the SEC for the first time under Kiffin’s watch. Whether they go undefeated is anyone’s guess, but that’ll lead Ole Miss to a first round bye in the College Football Playoff.

4. Oregon

Oregon finds their way to a first round bye as the Big Ten runner-ups this season. It’ll be the second straight year where the Ducks get to skip the first round in the College Football Playoff.

After beating Penn State on the road, Dan Lanning and crew definitely reminded folks that this is a national championship caliber squad. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

5. Texas Tech (Big 12 Champion)

The Red Raiders will win the Big 12 this season and make the College Football Playoff for the first time. But, the resume won’t be good enough for the top four and a first round bye.

Still, Lubbock will host in the first round and it should be an insane environment. We’re almost at the halfway point, so Texas Tech is looking good right now.

6. Alabama

Alabama got back into the good graces of the College Football Playoff after beating Georgia on the road this past weekend. All looked lost for the Crimson Tide after a loss to Florida State to open the season.

Not so fast my friend! Kalen DeBoer has led this team to three straight wins and has a second straight win over the Bulldogs. That’s good enough to earn them a home game in the first round at this stage.

7. Texas

The Longhorns were very quiet over the last two weeks. They did have a bye this past weekend after all!

Still, it seems like the Longhorns are back in the thick of things in terms of the College Football Playoff after their season opening loss. If Arch Manning finally has it clicking, watch out.

8. Georgia

Georgia suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a close one to Alabama at home. Still, that’s not enough to kick them out of the College Football Playoff bracket just yet!

The Bulldogs saw QB Gunner Stockton come back down to Earth last weekend, but Georgia basically controls their destiny to get to the dance. Barring a few losses, this team should still get in and host a first round game!

9. Penn State

There’s a lot of conversation about Penn State’s College Football Playoff chances being on life support after losing to a top three team in America. We didn’t even hit October yet.

Still, Penn State let one slip away against Oregon but can right the ship fast. There will be tough games against Indiana and Ohio State, but if the Nittany Lions are 10-2, they should have a great shot at getting in again.

10. Texas A&M

The Aggies will finally make the College Football Playoff, but it’ll be Mike Elko leading them there. Texas A&M will have to hit the road in the first round though.

They’re 4-0 right now but still have ranked matchups at LSU, at Missouri at Texas starting in late October. Things could change drastically, but A&M is in a good spot.
