College Football Playoff Prediction: CBS Sports projects first CFP Top 25 after Week 6
On3

The latest College Football Playoff predictions are here from CBS Sports. They projected the top 25 rankings after Week 6 with the full slate.

The four conference champs from the Power Four are all within the top five seeds, but one does not get a bye. The rest of the slate makes for exciting matchups in the first round.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the latest College Football Playoff predictions from CBS Sports. We’ll start with the top of the rankings.

1. Miami (ACC Champion)

The Hurricanes are the projected ACC champ and the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff at this point. Miami is unbeaten, has beaten the state of Florida and easily the best team in the league.

Carson Beck is a Heisman contender, Malachi Toney looks like one of the best freshmen in college football and Mario Cristobal has his best collection of talent. Playoff or bust? Maybe national title or bust!

2. Ohio State (Big Ten Champion)

The Buckeyes are the top team in the Big Ten and Ohio State should have a bye in the College Football Playoff. The defending champions are rolling right now after a 42-3 win over Minnesota last weekend.

Julian Sayin has fit in nicely at QB and it certainly helps to have WR Jeremiah Smith. Ohio State’s defense hasn’t missed a step from the 2024 campaign either!

3. Oklahoma (SEC Champion)

CBS Sports projected Oklahoma to win the SEC at this stage of the season. The Sooners are 5-0 and set to return to the College Football Playoff.

John Mateer is still sidelined, but QB Michael Hawkins has filled in nicely. Now, Oklahoma’s depth will truly be tested as they take on Texas this weekend.

4. Texas Tech (Big 12 Champion)

Texas Tech is by far the best team in the Big 12 right now. The Red Raiders completely transformed the roster via the transfer portal and through NIL and it’s paid off, literally, to this point.

Behren Morton returned from injury in a 35-11 win over Houston and threw for 345 yards and a touchdown. This team is loaded and Joey McGuire is pressing all of the right buttons.

5. Oregon

The Ducks have blasted everyone they played and won against a top tier opponent at Penn State. Granted, the Nittany Lions fell off the next week against UCLA but Oregon is still very impressive.

A return to the College Football Playoff seems like a forgone conclusion for Dan Lanning and crew. Dante Moore is playing QB at a Heisman level too.

6. Texas A&M

The Aggies are unbeaten and have a chance to win the SEC. Based on CBS Sports’ projections, Texas A&M could make the SEC Championship Game against Oklahoma.

Either way, Mike Elko is leading this team to the College Football Playoff for the first time. They play host to Florida this weekend after the Gators just upset Texas.

7. Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss raced out to a 5-0 start to the season and the College Football Playoff is squarely in their sights. There’s still a long way to go, but the Rebels are rolling.

Trinidad Chambliss seems to be the guy now at QB as well. Ole Miss will host Washington State this weekend before traveling to Georgia and Oklahoma in back to back weeks, so we’ll have clearer answers about this team soon.

8. Alabama

Alabama has really turned things around since the Week 1 loss to Florida State. The Crimson Tide are firmly back into the College Football Playoff race.

Ty Simpson looks like the best QB in the country with the way he’s played recently. Alabama will hit the road for a massive game against a top 15 Missouri team this weekend too!

9. Indiana

Indiana is for real from the perspective of the Hoosiers can compete for the College Football Playoff. But can Curt Cignetti and crew take the next step and beat a team like Oregon?

That’s what’s up next for Indiana. Traveling to Eugene is difficult enough but Oregon has been a bulldozer. But the Hoosiers might be able to keep up with QB Fernando Mendoza playing at a high level.

10. Georgia

Georgia rebounded with a win over Kentucky last week and are squarely in the College Football Playoff conversation. The Bulldogs travel to Auburn this weekend before hosting Ole Miss and then playing Florida two weeks later.

This is a very important stretch for the Bulldogs and Kirby Smart. They can probably afford another loss somewhere, but the SEC is so tight right now, it’s best to take it one game at a time!

11. Tennessee

Tennessee has flown under the radar in recent weeks, but the Vols are 4-1 under Josh Heupel this season. They needed a week off after another OT game, this time a win over Mississippi State.

They’ll be favored against Arkansas this week but a road date with Alabama the following week will be a true measuring stick for both games. Tennessee can certainly return to the College Football Playoff if they win these next two!

12. USF (Group of Five Champion)

South Florida popped up at No. 24 in the AP Poll this week following another win. They are 4-1 on the season and have the signature win over Florida, which looks a little better after the Gators upset Texas.

Byrum Brown leads the way under center for the Bulls but their College Football PLayoff game could come down to three specific games. The other unbeaten teams in the AAC: North Texas, Memphis and Navy are all on the schedule. And they’re all on the road.
