College football rankings: Joey Galloway shakes up top five after upset-filled Week 8

It was a chaotic Week 8 around college football, full of ranked matchups and upsets. In the wake of all of that, college football analyst Joey Galloway shook up his top five college football rankings.
Galloway managed to include five teams from just two conferences, as the SEC and Big Ten are currently stationed atop the sport. That’s, of course, in no small part because Miami lost. The ACC favorite had been in Galloway’s previous rankings. They’ve slipped out now, though, with a new face jumping up to take their place.
Galloway revealed his top five teams on his show Nonstop with Kirk Herbstreit. You can check out those rankings, here.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes

The Ohio State Buckeyes are sitting at the top of Galloway’s college football rankings. Coming off a weekend where they dominated Wisconsin to the tune of a 34-0 shutout win, it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. After all, it’s hard to find any ranking around college football without the Buckeyes at the top.
Part of Ohio State’s success has come down to quarterback Julian Sayin hitting the ground running this season. He’s thrown for 1,872 yards and 19 touchdowns already. Defensively, Ohio State is even better. Second in total defense, giving up 216.9 yards per game, and first in scoring defense, giving up just 5.9 points per game. So, there’s plenty of reason to trust the Buckeyes.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama’s opening loss to Florida State is getting harder and harder to understand as the season goes on. At the same time, what Alabama’s done since then is nothing short of dominant. So, Galloway having the Crimson Tide ranked this highly isn’t a shock.
Last week’s win over Tennessee certainly helped in these rankings. With the benefit of a pick-six to end the first half, Alabama pulled away in that win and continued to build on that during the second half. All of that amounted to another impressive win for the surging Tide.
3. Texas A&M Aggies
The Texas A&M Aggies are now the final unbeaten team in the SEC. Rankings are a little different from standings, though, and that’s the case here as Alabama does jump ahead of the Aggies, according to Galloway. Still, being the third team in the entire country isn’t bad, either.

Last week, the Aggies survived a close game against Arkansas. They did survive, though, and now Texas A&M gets to look forward at a challenging schedule ahead. That includes three ranked opponents in their last five games, starting with an LSU team that has its back against the wall.
4. Indiana Hoosiers

After shocking the college football world and going to the College Football Playoff a season ago, there was an expectation Indiana would regress to the mean. That hasn’t happened, though, as Curt Cignetti has set a new standard for the Hoosiers. Now, Galloway has the Hoosiers fourth in his current rankings.
Indiana is coming off a win over Michigan State that they won by 25 points even despite starting slow. That pushed the Hoosiers to 7-0 on the season. If all goes well, there’s a good chance that Indiana will even get its shot against Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game.
5. Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs got off to a slightly slow start in 2025, which included the forgivable loss to Alabama back in September. Since then, they’ve added three wins, though, including a shootout win over Ole Miss last week, making it clear that the Bulldogs aren’t going away any time soon.
Georgia is heading into a bye week now. After that, they’ll begin the final run of their season. That includes two ranked opponents, but only one of those is in the SEC. So, the Bulldogs are in a good position moving forward if they want to make noise in the conference championship and potentially even the College Football Playoff race.
