College Football Rankings: Josh Pate makes major changes to Commissioner's Poll Top 25 ahead of Week 7
Following a wild Saturday of college football, Josh Pate called an audible. Rather than announce the JP Poll power ratings, he unveiled his Commissioner’s Poll Top 25 college football rankings – which included some major changes.
The top of the rankings stayed the same as Miami, Ohio State and Oregon held strong as the top three respective teams. But one of last week’s top games had major ramifications as Alabama jumped into the Top 10 and Vanderbilt fell out.
As a result, Pate’s Top 25 is taking on a new look ahead of Week 7 as the national title picture gets even more interesting. Here are the full Commissioner’s Poll rankings, as revealed on Josh Pate’s College Football Show.
1. Miami (-)
After a huge road victory over Florida State, Miami kept its spot at No. 1 in the Commissioner’s Poll, according to Josh Pate. The Hurricanes survived a late surge from the Seminoles to stay undefeated and get their first ACC win of the year.
Carson Beck had a huge night, going 20 of 27 for 241 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Malachi Toney. The true freshman wide receiver also showed out with seven catches for 107 yards.
2. Ohio State (-)

Ohio State didn’t leave any room for doubt in last week’s victory over Minnesota in primetime and stuck at No. 2 in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll. The Buckeyes flew to the 42-3 win, led by massive nights from Julian Sayin and Carnell Tate.
Sayin went 23 of 27 for 326 yards and three touchdowns to lead the charge, including 183 yards and a touchdown to Tate. Jeremiah Smith also had two touchdowns as part of the massive night, and Ohio State will now head to Champaign to take on Illinois in Week 7.
3. Oregon (-)
Also staying put in its ranking, Oregon had a bye as it came off a thrilling win at Penn State. The Ducks also had a chance to regroup before an intriguing showdown this week against Indiana in Eugene.
Dante Moore is off to a monster start at quarterback, completing 74.6% of his passes for 1,210 yards and 14 touchdowns to just one interception. Now, all eyes will be on Autzen Stadium this week with ESPN’s College GameDay in attendance for a Top-10 showdown between Oregon and Indiana.
4. Texas A&M (+2)
A newcomer in the Top 5, Texas A&M made a strong statement in a Week 6 win over Mississippi State. As a result, the Aggies jumped up two spots to No. 4 in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll.
Rueben Owens led the running game, taking 21 carries for 142 yards on the ground, while Marcel Reed threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. Texas A&M is now 5-0 entering Week 7 as the Aggies welcome a Florida team fresh off an upset win over Texas.
5. Ole Miss (-1)

Despite being on a bye in Week 6, Ole Miss dropped a spot in Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll. Still, the Rebels are squarely in the Top 10 entering a non-conference matchup against Washington State.
This week’s game will serve as a tuneup for an important Week 8 game in Athens. Georgia awaits at Sanford Stadium in an SEC showdown with plenty at stake for Lane Kiffin’s group.
6. Oklahoma (-1)
Oklahoma is also down a spot entering Week 7, dropping to No. 6 in the Commissioner’s Poll. The Sooners showed out against Kent State with Michael Hawkins at quarterback, but a pivotal game is on tap Saturday afternoon.
The Red River Shootout is coming up in Dallas this week, and quarterback will be the biggest question for OU. John Mateer’s goal is to play against Texas but the recovery process will be critical, and On3’s Pete Nakos and Chris Low have the latest on the situation.

7. Texas Tech (+1)
Up a spot to No. 7 in the Commissioner’s Poll, Texas Tech is one of two unbeaten teams left in the Big 12. The Red Raiders didn’t miss a beat out of their bye, coming away with a 35-11 win at Houston last week.
BYU and Texas Tech are the only two 2-0 teams in conference play so far, and they’re on a collision course next month. In the meantime, the Red Raiders are flexing their muscle, leading the nation with 568.8 yards of offense per game.
8. Alabama (+6)

The biggest riser in this week’s Commissioner’s Poll, Alabama is back in the Top 10. The Crimson Tide moved up six spots to No. 8 after taking down Vanderbilt at Bryant-Denny Stadium last week.
It was another huge game for Ty Simpson, who continues to look the part as Alabama’s starting quarterback. He went 23 of 31 for 340 yards and two touchdowns while Jam Miller led the run game with 136 yards and a touchdown, as well.
9. Indiana (-)
The last two teams in the Top 10 stayed the same from last week. Indiana stood pat after the bye week, taking an undefeated 5-0 record into Week 7.
This week’s matchup against Oregon is going to be crucial for the Hoosiers, who will head into Autzen Stadium looking to make a statement. With the college football world turning its attention to Eugene, IU has a chance to further prove itself in a Big Ten race that’s getting even more interesting.
10. Georgia Tech (-)
Also staying put out of the bye, Georgia Tech rounds out the Top 10 of Josh Pate’s Commissioner’s Poll once again. The Yellow Jackets will ramp up ACC play, starting with this week’s matchup against Virginia Tech.
Fueled by a strong rushing attack and dual-threat quarterback Haynes King, Georgia Tech is looking to make noise in the ACC. After Virginia Tech this week, the Yellow Jackets will face another team toward the top of the standings when they head to Duke in Week 8.
