At halftime of the national championship game, it was clear that Georgia was going to win its second championship in a row. On set, former Bulldog and current analyst for ESPN David Pollack said that Kirby Smart and Georgia had taken a hold of college football. Sitting directly next to him was one Nick Saban.

That moment went viral and Pollack discussed that comment during an appearance on The Hard Count with J.D. PicKell.

“No, he didn’t say a word,” David Pollack said. “Nick is a professional, and I didn’t mean it any other way besides advancing the conversation and I know it got blown up with a million memes, people put slow motions shots and put music behind it and I was just like, ‘Oh, Lord have mercy.'”

“But he was fine. It’s just like if I’m talking about Ohio State, I don’t think about Kirk [Herbstreit] being an Ohio State guy,” Pollack explained how little school affiliation goes into analysis.

“I mean. Nick was an analyst with us so I talked about — I furthered the conversation that Georgia’ taken a hold of college football and they’re the new kings and I think everybody else realizes that’s true but just saying it in front of Nick probably struck people the wrong way or made it look a certain kind of way.”

David Pollack on Georgia winning a third national championship

One thing that David Pollack also pointed out while speaking to J.D. PicKell is that winning a third national championship in a row would be the toughest for Georgia.

“If you ever give me that question, there’s very few times that I’m gonna say a singular team…I think Carson Beck has a chance to be really special. He’s a guy who has sat at the University of Georgia for three years and waited his time and I think there’s something to that. He’ll be experienced, he’ll have seen things, he’ll know things, he’ll know how to prepare, he’ll know how to lead. I think he’s big, he’s strong, he’s accurate. So, I think he fills in for Stetson [Bennett] well. You know, Todd Monken leaves and goes to the NFL. Now, [Mike] Bobo is calling plays,” Pollack said.

“There’s always a little bit of a transition and different things that go on. But [Brock] Bowers is still there and [Ladd] McConkey is still there and an offensive line that will be really, really good. But there will be new pieces, it won’t be as easy a job to say, hey, let’s just go compete and act like we didn’t do it again two years in a row.”
