Florida Football Predictions: Massey Ratings project major struggles for Gators in final 11 games

The already tenuous season for Florida got started wrong on Saturday with a 24-point home loss to an in-state rival. With that, the Gators might be in for a terrible finish based on their outlook by On3’s Massey Ratings.
The On3 Massey Ratings – which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated high school sports team rankings since 1995 – rank sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory.

This comes after Florida opened with a 41-17 loss to No. 19 Miami in The Swamp. These ratings actually had them winning that one over the Hurricanes at a score of 31-24. Since they didn’t, though, the discomfort has already begun as we enter September in Gainesville.
It’s not going to get much more enjoyable either for Billy Napier or the Gators over the next three months according to On3’s Massey Ratings.
Florida vs. Samford – Sat., 9/7
The Gators and Bulldogs last met in 2021 with Samford giving them a scare in Ben Hill Griffin in an unbelievable 70-52 outcome. Considering the current status of the head coach, it’s also worth noting that this was the second-to-last game for Dan Mullen leading the program. However, the prediction for this meeting is for the largest win in the rest of their season in order to get right following the opening loss.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Florida 42, Samford 7
Florida vs. Texas A&M – Sat., 9/14
Florida will then welcome the first of four conference opponents to their home field in Texas A&M. The two teams have split their six all-time meetings, including their four in the league, while each also lost their first games at home in primetime matchups. With that, the projection is actually a three-point road victory for Mike Elko and the Aggies to put the Gators below .500 for the remainder of the season.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas A&M 27, Florida 24
Florida at Mississippi State – Sat., 9/21
From there, Florida will close the first month with their first road game of the season in Starkville. Their recent woes away from home will get them again too based on the analysis of this matchup against the Bulldogs. Even in their first season under Jeff Lebby, Mississippi State will also win this one by a margin of a field goal per the ratings to send Florida to 1-3 before October even begins.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Mississippi State 30, Florida 27
Florida vs. UCF – Sat., 10/5
Florida will return from their first bye week with their second game within the state as they’ll host UCF. This will be the team’s first meeting against one another since the Knights joined the Big 12. Gus Malzahn will have a team that can compete if the Gators aren’t careful but, even so, the forecast favors them to get back in the win column by yet another three-point differential.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Florida 30, UCF 27
Florida at Tennessee – Sat., 10/12
This trip to Rocky Top is where the Gators should begin to avert their eyes. On its own, Tennessee is in a better spot overall and has been better to a degree in the series, although still lopsided in favor of Florida going back to 2005. Overall, though, this 14-point loss to the Vols in Knoxville is the start of a significant skid to end the year.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Tennessee 35, Florida 21
Florida vs. Kentucky – Sat., 10/19
Kentucky is another opponent that the Gators have dominated in the series since the late-1980s. With that said, it’s one that they’ve also let slip recently with the Wildcats having won four of six with two of those being in Gainesville. The Massey Ratings then have it reaching five of seven and an undefeated mark of three wins for Mark Stoops against the current tenure with a two-point win in The Swamp.

Massey Ratings Prediction: Kentucky 28, Florida 26
Florida vs. Georgia – Sat., 11/2
At this point, Florida would return from their second bye at 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the SEC. If that’s not enough, they’d be coming back for a five-game final stretch in November against some of the very best in the sport with each being in the Preseason Top-15. That would start with The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party from Jacksonville where the ratings have Georgia giving them a 24-point loss to tie the ‘Canes for the largest of the Gators’ season.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Georgia 38, Florida 14
Florida at Texas – Sat., 11/9
The Longhorns are the new conference opponent with a trip to The 40 Acres up next for the Gators. With it being on the road, even though for just the second time this season, against a team that made the last playoff and looks to be in contention for the upcoming one, the analysis is another large deficit, their second-worst margin of the year, against them versus Texas.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Texas 38, Florida 20
Florida vs. LSU – Sat., 11/16
Florida would then return to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for a two-game home stand to close play in the SEC. That starts with a visit from the Tigers who have won won five straight and six of seven over the Gators. It’s also the latest loss on the record with the ratings having this as a win at the margin of a touchdown for LSU.
Massey Ratings Prediction: LSU 34, Florida 27
Florida vs. Ole Miss – Sat., 11/23
The Gators’ final home game and conference meeting will be against Ole Miss. It will also be more of the same with a 10-point loss to the Rebels according to the ratings. That would leave them winless in the league for the first time since they played just six games in it back in 1979.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Ole Miss 34, Florida 24
Florida at Florida State – Sat., 11/30
After the first week or so of the season, Florida and Florida State are both talking points for all the wrong reasons. That could make this game all the more important for both by the end of what both project as potentially very poor seasons. Still, for the final time, the ratings have Florida being defeated again to finish on a seven-game losing streak following a seven-point loss to the ‘Noles in Tallahassee.
Massey Ratings Prediction: Florida State 31, Florida 24
A record of 2-10 would be the worst season in Gainesville in 45 years. It would also almost certainly lead to changes of all sorts from top to bottom at Florida.
That’s the projection by the On3 Massey Ratings, though, for the rest of this year for the Gators.
