Georgia overcomes Carson Beck injury, win SEC Championship vs. Texas

For the second time in three years, Georgia will leave Mercedes-Benz Stadium as SEC Champions after taking down Texas. Head coach Kirby Smart saw his team suffer two regular season losses for the first time since 2016 but found a way to break through. Georgia is now automatically into the College Football Playoff, earning a top-four seed and a bye.
It would not be an SEC Championship Game without some dramatics, though. The game had never gone to overtime until Saturday. Trevor Etienne scored the game-winning touchdown after Texas kicked a field goal to start the overtime period.
The big storyline coming off the field is Carson Beck‘s health. Beck was ruled out ahead of the second half after taking a big hit before heading to the halftime locker room. Georgia had to roll with Gunnar Stockton for the final two quarters and was still able to find a way to win.
Stockton did not have to be too efficient throwing the ball, completing 12 of 16 passes for 71 yards. The ground game is where Georgia really got things going. Etienne was the team’s leading rusher with 94 yards and two touchdowns touchdown after his status was not known heading into the afternoon.
A complete switch from the first half where not much was going right for the UGA offense.
Georgia now has the College Football Playoff to worry about. Outside of what was given via the ESPN broadcast in-game is know about Beck’s status. Smart will provide more moving forward, no matter when the Bulldogs take the field next.

Thankfully, there will be some extra time to recover as Georgia will not play until around the New Year.
On the other side, Texas is still a heavy favorite to hear its name called on Selection Sunday. Head coach Steve Sarkisian fell short in the program’s first-ever SEC Championship but still has a chance to compete for a national championship.
Austin will likely host a CFP game, welcoming another at-large team to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
