There were a few massive games in the SEC over the weekend that could have an impact on the College Football Playoff rankings. That included Alabama taking care of business against LSU and Georgia getting upset by Ole Miss.

In the wake of those Week 11 games, ESPN’s Heather Dinich made an appearance on SportsCenter. There, she predicted exactly how those games are going to impact these schools in the next Playoff rankings.

“I’m expecting Georgia to fall behind Alabama but remain in the Playoff bracket as a two-loss team,” Heather Dinich said. “Part of that is, A, they have the head-to-head loss to Alabama but also because their wins against Clemson and Texas, two teams that both won this weekend, will continue to impress the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. You also have Warde Manuel talking about how he’s impressed with Georgia on both sides of the ball, but they’ve struggled recently.”

For Georgia, the loss to Ole Miss was their second loss of the season. Both of those came against ranked opponents. As part of an overall impressive resume, Dinich still believes that the Bulldogs are in a relatively good position for the Playoff. At the same time, the loss likely does make it so that Georgia no longer has a margin for error in making the Playoff.

As for Alabama, who has the head-to-head over Georgia, Dinich expects the Crimson Tide to be the top-ranked two-loss team. Their win over LSU, which came in a dominant performance, is a major reason why too.

“Then, when you look at Alabama, I’m expecting them to remain the committee’s top two-loss team and the win against LSU and how they won should only cement that,” Dinich said. “Warde Manuel pointed out earlier this week, they like Alabama’s wins against Georgia and Mizzou. He said he likes their top-20 offense and also the fact that their defense is holding opponents to 20 points or fewer per game.”

Ultimately, both Alabama and Georgia are now in a precarious situation given that they both have two losses. Within the SEC alone, there are seven teams with two losses or less on the season. That includes three teams with one conference loss. So, making the SEC Championship Game for the auto bid that comes with winning the conference looks like it will be a challenge for both the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs. On top of that, this is the first season of the 12-team Playoff format, meaning there are still questions about how the final rankings will work out.

The next College Football Playoff rankings are scheduled to come out on Tuesday, November 12th.
