Houston was having no trouble handling Texas in the second half on Saturday, and J’Wan Roberts got the building rocking with a huge dunk with 5:41 to play. In fact, he threw it down with such power the game had to enter a delay to fix the camera atop the backboard.

Roberts’ dunk knocked the camera loose, and the team of workers – led by “Rick the Ladder Guy” – came out on the court to pull it down for the rest of the game. It resulted in about a five-minute delay as Houston held a commanding lead over Texas in Saturday’s Big 12 showdown.

Of course, Ian Eagle had some fun with the commentary, too.

Houston took a 40-27 lead into halftime, and the Cougars kept their foot on the gas pedal after the break to come away with the resounding 82-61 victory. UH shot 46.8% from the field in the effort to improve to 22-3 overall on the season and 9-3 in Big 12 play. LJ Cryer led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-9 from three-point territory.

As for Texas, the loss drops the Longhorns to 16-9 overall and 5-7 in conference play – now four games back of Houston and Iowa State, which are tied for first place. Dylan Disu led UT with 16 points on Saturday, and was one of two players to reach double figures, along with Chendall Weaver’s 11 points.

With the victory, Houston completed the season sweep of Texas after previously defeating the Longhorns 76-72 at the Moody Center last month. The Cougars will also likely stay atop the NET and KenPom rankings after the victory after entering Saturday No. 1 in both metrics.

Houston also came in as the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament selection committee’s Top 16 reveal on Saturday. The Cougars were the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the mock field and trailed only Purdue and UConn as the respective No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively.

It’s looking like another banner year for the Big 12. Entering Saturday, the conference led KenPom in efficiency and had sizable lead over the Big East, which sits in second place. In On3’s latest Bracketology, James Fletcher III projected the Big 12 to get 10 bids, headlined by Houston as a No. 1 seed in the South Region. Texas came in as a No. 8 seed in the Midwest Region.
