Kansas State is now just one win away from bowl eligibility following its 14-6 win over Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats however will likely be without star receiver Jayce Brown for the remainder of their season, head coach Chris Klieman revealed postgame.

Although he hauled in just three catches, Brown led the Wildcats in receiving with 82 yards in the win. He also caught a touchdown. He exited the game in the second half and was spotted on the sideline in a sling.

“I don’t think it’s very good,” Klieman said. “I don’t know the exact injury, but they said he’s out and most likely done for the year. But I don’t know the exact injury. I just know it didn’t look good.”

Across nine games this season, Brown led Kansas State in receiving with 712 yards and five touchdowns. He was in the midst of his third season with the program, hauling in 115 catches for 1,972 yards and 13 touchdowns. As the team heads down the final stretch of the season however, quarterback Avery Johnson will now be without his go-to pass-catcher.

The Wildcats opened the year ranked No. 17 in the country, but fell to No. 22 Iowa State 24-21 in their season opener. Brown caught four catches for 78 yards and one touchdown in the game, which took place in Dublin. They then narrowly held off North Dakota 38-35 to earn their first win of the season, but dropped their next three games to Army, Arizona, and Baylor.

K-State opened the season as favorites to head to the Big 12 Championship Game, but quickly fizzled out of the race. Without Brown on the offense, it will certainly be tough sledding across their final two regular season games. Needing to win just one of their final two, the Wildcats face No. 13 Utah on the road and host Colorado in their home finale.

Since Klieman took over the program prior to the 2019 season, Kansas State has reached a bowl game in five of six seasons.
