Over the weekend, Alabama DC Kane Wommack was connected to the open head coaching job at Arkansas. The Crimson Tides’ defensive coordinator has now avoided any such questions moving forward regarding what may be next for his career.

At his media availability on Monday, Wommack was asked about his name coming up as a candidate, namely after this weekend when it was mentioned as part of the Razorbacks’ search. He, though, quickly and politely ended that discussion for the time being with his answer.

“Yeah, I appreciate the question, but, you know, I’m just not going to address any, you know, job opportunity stuff,” said Wommack.

This comes after Saturday’s broadcast of Arkansas vs. No. 17 Texas, which featured an appearance by ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Thamel, in saying he’s expecting “a culmination in the near future” and “some resolution in the upcoming days” to this process in Fayetteville, listed Wommack as one of four candidates who had been mentioned the most to him regarding the open job for the ‘Hogs, while also naming USF’s Alex GoleshMemphis‘ Ryan Silverfield, and North Texas’ Eric Morris.

“The latest on the Arkansas search today is that it appears to be coming to a culmination in the near future. I’ve been told to expect some resolution in the upcoming days. Sources have told me there’s four names that have been linked to this the most. USF‘s Alex Golesh, Memphis‘ Ryan Silverfield, North Texas‘ Eric Morris, and Alabama (DC) Kane Wommack,” Thamel said on ABC during the 52-37 win for the Longhorns in Austin. “Look for some resolution in the near future for the next ‘Hog coach.”

As far as coordinator options around college football, Wommack is one with past, recent head coaching experience, having spent three seasons at South Alabama from 2021 to 2023 where he posted a 22-16 (.579) record with the Jaguars in the Sun Belt. That has resulted in his job at Alabama under Kalen DeBoer the past two years, where Wommack has coached a defense for the Tide that has currently had a pair of top-ten units in allowing 16.8 points and 295.3 yards per game in his time there. His resumé also includes stops as a defensive coordinator at Indiana, South Alabama, and Eastern Illinois, while also spending two years as a graduate assistant at Ole Miss.

However, most notably, Wommack played at fullback for Arkansas in 2005 and 2006. He would then transfer to finish his playing career at Southern Miss.

Wommack may very well be a candidate amidst the searches continuing on this coaching carousel, including at a former program of his at Arkansas. But, even so, he won’t be addressing it again, especially with the season still ongoing, and a chance at both a spot in the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff, in Tuscaloosa.
