Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos recently made headlines speaking to On3’s Pete Nakos when discussing Alabama. Castellanos was honest in his assessment of the Crimson Tide, saying, “They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me.” This comes before the two square off on Aug. 30 in Tallahassee.

LaNorris Sellers of South Carolina is another quarterback set to face Alabama this season. He gave his reactions to Castellanos’ comments, giving Kalen DeBoer‘s program a little more praise.

“Shoot, Alabama is still Alabama to me,” Sellers said via The Zach Gelb Show. “They were good last year. They’re a good team. They’re big, strong, and fast. That’s how I remember watching them growing up. I don’t really think they’ve changed that much. Obviously, they’ve got a new coaching staff and all that. But they’re still SEC ball, they’re still Alabama.”

Sellers got a first-hand look at Alabama last season, almost guiding South Carolina to a victory inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. He threw for 238 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, also completing over 74% of his throws.

The interception was a brutal one for Sellers, turning it over after South Carolina recovered an onside kick down 27-25. Just a field goal was needed but in a shot to the end zone, Domani Jackson came up with the ball before running the clock out. He connected with Nyck Harbor for a touchdown on the previous drive but failed the two-point conversion.

Luckily for Sellers, there will be a chance at redemption this season. South Carolina will be the ones playing host this go-round too. Alabama will come to Columbia for the first time since 2019 on Oct. 25. The SEC currently has the game marked as a FLEX, meaning it could kick off anywhere between 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

Ultimately, the goal for Sellers and Castellanos is going to be the same. Both want to get a win against Alabama, no matter the conditions. Florida State is looking to start the season off well following a 2-10 record, while South Carolina is hoping big-time SEC implications are on the line.

Mindsets might just be a little different heading into the game. If anything, great offseason chatter in the late portion of June, giving fans something to debate and argue over. Plenty more trash talk is surely on the way as the 2025 campaign grows closer and closer.
