According to The Daily Memphian, Memphis guard Sincere Parker was arrested on Saturday after being charged with aggravated assault. Parker just transferred into the program after previously playing at McNeese State.

“Sincere Parker, a recent addition to the University of Memphis men’s basketball team, has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly attacking his girlfriend in late May,” The Daily Memphian said. “Parker, 23, was also charged with vandalism. A warrant for Parker’s arrest was issued Friday, July 18, and he was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Saturday. Bond information was unavailable Saturday.”

Inside the report, there was a statement provided by Memphis. The university said they are “aware of the situation,” but at the time, “cannot comment on an active investigation.”

Parker is entering his fourth season in college basketball and his third school. Saint Louis was where Parker committed to coming out of high school before entering the NCAA transfer portal after two seasons. McNeese State was waiting for him on the other side with head coach Will Wade.

A bench role was carved out for Carver, playing in 34 games. He averaged 12.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game in just under 20 minutes a night. McNeese made a nice run in the NCAA Tournament as well, earning the program’s first win against Clemson.

When Parker decided to enter the portal, plenty of options were out there for him. Memphis was the one to win out in his recruitment, hoping he would play a major role in the 2025-2026 roster. Now, some off-the-court issues will have to be dealt with.

Memphis basketball program put on probation by NCAA

The NCAA has come down on the Memphis Tigersreportedly levying multiple penalties on the men’s basketball program. That includes putting the program on a two-year probation.

Along with the probation, Memphis is facing a one percent budget fine. This comes after two softball players were paid $550 to do what is described as “complete coursework” for a former Memphis basketball player. It was an academic counselor, Leslie Brooks, who paid the softball players. Brooks has also received a 10-year show-cause penalty.

Memphis was hit with a $30,000 fine in total, plus 1% of the combined budgets of the basketball and softball programs. The NCAA also called for a vacation of all records for contests when athletes played, despite now being deemed ineligible.
