One of the biggest games on the Week 9 slate is in Nashville as Vanderbilt and Missouri square off. ESPN’s College GameDay will be in attendance for a high-stakes SEC matchup.

Both teams got thrilling victories in Week 8. Vanderbilt took down LSU at FirstBank Stadium and moved into the Top 10 of the AP poll. Missouri, meanwhile, went to double overtime against Auburn before defeating the Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Now, they will meet in Week 9 on the big stage, and the two teams also released their initial availability reports Wednesday night. Here’s where things stand as the week goes along.

Vanderbilt Commodores

College GameDay will be at Vanderbilt for the first time since 2008 as the Commodores become one of the biggest stories in college football. Led by quarterback Diego Pavia, they came in at No. 10 in the AP Poll Top 25, marking their first appearance in the Top 10 since 1947.

All the while, Mizzou takes a 6-1 record into Saturday’s game, fresh off a thrilling win at Auburn. Eli Drinkwitz offered high praise for what Clark Lea and the coaching staff have built in Nashville, particularly with how Vanderbilt used the transfer portal to bring in key pieces. He also shared his excitement that the Commodores are stepping into the spotlight.

“I think parity in college football is at the highest in the SEC,” Drinkwitz said on Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference. “I think the average margin of victory is lower than the NFL. Great teams top to bottom.

“We’ve all utilized NIL and the transfer portal to be advantageous for us, and I think you’re getting great matchups throughout the season. For it to be hosted at Vanderbilt is a recognition of Clark and to Diego, which they rightfully earned and deserve.”

But with College GameDay in attendance for the Missouri at Vanderbilt matchup, Drinkwitz downplayed Missouri’s role in that decision. He said Vanderbilt is the main attraction.

“Nah, we’re just the sideshow that gets to show up,” Drinkwitz said. “It’s all about them.”
