Missouri State safety Todric McGee dies at 21

Missouri State football player Todric McGee passed away Saturday at a local hospital from injuries sustained Friday at his local residence, per a statement. The details of the incident are currently under investigation.
“On behalf of the university and our entire department, we want to express our condolences to Todric’s family, friends and teammates,” Missouri State Director of Athletics Patrick Ransdell said in a statement. “This tragedy has shaken our football program to the core, and we want them to know we are here to support them in every way possible at this extremely difficult time.”
Missouri State head coach Ryan Beard also released a statement. All thoughts are with McGee’s family.
“Our football family is in shock and in mourning at the loss of Todric,” Bear said. “We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and our MoState football team at this time as we begin the healing process. Join us in praying for Todric and the people who loved him.”
According to the Springfield News-Leader, officers responded to a check well-being call on Friday morning, where McGee was located. There was a possible accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

McGee’s 2024 season was cut short after sustaining a season-ending injury five games into the year. He managed to finish eighth on the team in total tackles and earned one MVFC Player of the Week nod.
McGee entered senior year with the Bears and expected to have a major role as the program heads into its first season in Conference USA in 2025. He played in 27 games across four seasons with the team.
McGee’s best season came in 2023 when he was a second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference player. He finished the year with 102 tackles, 59 solo tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
McGee had 42 total tackles, an interception and five pass deflections this past season. He was a graduate of Wichita Northwest (Kansas).
