Saturday’s contest between Notre Dame and Purdue has been delayed after lightning was detected in the area. The delay occurred around 5:06 p.m. ET with 1:31 remaining in the first half.

The Fighting Irish held a 28-13 advantage at the time of the delay. Rain could be seen falling as fans were urged to exit their seats and take cover.

An update from local meteorologist Krysten Tyler predicted that the storms would clear up around 6:30 p.m. ET. That in mind, fans should expect the game to resume sometime at or around then.

UPDATE: The lightning warning has been lifted and the game is set to resume at 7 p.m. ET. Notre Dame reported that the gates will open for fans to re-enter at 6:40 p.m. ET.

So far in the first half, Notre Dame has leaned on its ground game with Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Prince. The pair combined for 138 yards rushing and three touchdowns so far. Quarterback CJ Carr was 3-of-4 passing for 94 yards and a touchdown.

Notre Dame is still in search of its first win of the season after a couple of close losses against Miami and Texas A&M to start the year. But at least right now, it looks like the Fighting Irish are in control to win this contest. Hopefully the weather delay didn’t disrupt their rhythm and they can pick up right where they left off.

More on Notre Dame vs. Purdue

Notre Dame is coming off an absolutely heartbreaking loss to Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish scored to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but a botched extra point attempt left the door cracked at 40-34.

That was all the Aggies needed to deliver the dagger to the Fighting Irish. It went all the way to fourth down in the red zone before Texas A&M converted, though.

That’s when quarterback Marcel Reed escaped pressure to throw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Nate Boerkircher with 13 seconds left on the clock. Randy Bond nailed the extra point to seal the 41-40 win.

That comes two weeks after Notre Dame dropped an equally heartbreaking game to Miami in the season opener. So, naturally, finishing will be top of the agenda for the Fighting Irish this week.

On the flip side, Purdue has been led by quarterback Ryan Browne. He has thrown for 481 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Boilermakers get out to a 2-1 start to the season.

Things were competitive for a while against a USC team that remains unbeaten, but ultimately the Trojans pulled away for a 33-17 win. Now it’s on to the Notre Dame game.
