As Memphis transfer PJ Haggerty goes through the transfer portal process, his recruitment is starting to take shape, according to The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman. Haggerty is also going through the NBA Draft process.

NC State is “heavily in the mix” for Haggerty, Goodman reported, while a return to Memphis “seems improbable right now” as he weighs his options. Haggerty is also not expected to visit Ole Miss in the near future, and Goodman added Texas was never involved in his recruitment.

On the NBA front, Haggerty has a visit scheduled for Friday with the Boston Celtics. Goodman also reported the star guard could go in the mid-second round at this point, but also could wind up going undrafted.

Haggerty, who began his college career at TCU and Tulsa, officially entered the portal April 17. He’s coming off a huge 2024-25 season at Memphis, averaging 21.7 points per game to become a season team All-American and the AAC Player of the Year.

After entering the portal, Haggerty became the best player available and No. 3 overall player in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings. He will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Prior to his arrival at Memphis, Haggerty put together a breakout season at Tulsa. He averaged 21.2 points and 3.8 assists to lead the Golden Hurricane before entering the transfer portal. He then committed to Memphis as the No. 6-ranked player to hit the open market during the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

PJ Haggerty played high school basketball at Crosby (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 150 overall player and No. 14-ranked player in the state of Texas from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Haggerty is also one of the notable names in college basketball. He has a $1.7 million On3 NIL Valuation, which ranks No. 9 in the college basketball NIL rankings. That also sits at No. 35 in the On3 NIL 100, the first of its kind and de facto NIL ranking of the top 100 high school and college athletes ranked by their On3 NIL Valuation.

The Field of 68 previously reported Haggerty’s camp was seeking at least $4 million in NIL dollars. In addition, he would prefer to play point guard for his next program.
