Rece Davis sends heartwarming 90th birthday wish to College GameDay legend Lee Corso

Beloved ESPN College GameDay co-host Lee Corso turned 90 today and his colleagues are celebrating him accordingly. On Thursday, ESPN analyst Rece Davis posted a picture with Corso, wishing his co-worker a happy 90th.
Kirk Herbstreit also wished Corso a happy birthday on social media Thursday. On Aug. 30, Corso will make his last appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay as the crew travels to Columbus for the Ohio State–Texas game.
Corso has been hosting College GameDay since 1993. As a former college football head coach, Corso brings a wealth of knowledge to the panel, but he also provides a surplus of entertainment.
Most notably, fans tune in each week to see Corso make his Game of the Week pick, which he reveals by putting on the mascot head of whichever team he’s backing. Of course, on special occasions, such as when he picks Notre Dame, Corso will don a full costume instead of some simple mascot gear.
“ESPN has been exceptionally generous to me, especially these past few years,” Corso said. “They accommodated me and supported me, as did my colleagues in the early days of College GameDay. Special thanks to Kirk Herbstreit for his friendship and encouragement.
“And lest I forget, the fans… truly a blessing to share this with them. ESPN gave me this wonderful opportunity and provided me the support to ensure success. I am genuinely grateful.”

Before joining ESPN, Corso served as the head coach at Louisville (1969-72), Indiana (1973-82) and Northern Illinois (1984). He accumulated a career head coaching record of 73-85-6 and won two conference titles at Louisville.
Lee Corso is not only universally respected by fans, but his colleagues as well. Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Corso’s College GameDay co-hosts shared their love for the college football legend.
“He was a guy that was willing to say things that a lot of people weren’t willing to say. He had fun,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “He was the guy that you hated for a second and then loved, and we all had a chance to see him behind the scenes and work with him, and obviously had so much fun, it’s a tough thing to accept. I’ve talked with him quite a bit over the last week or so. I think the best thing I could say, and I’ve said this on social media, he’s at peace with his decision and where he is.”
“It just blows my mind,” Desmond Howard added. “When I first met coach and I joined GameDay 20 years ago, he just opened his arms. He embraced me. He was a guy who always had a smile on his face. He still does, and always had words of wisdom, and explained to me what this business is… He’s absolutely one of one, the best to ever do it.”
