4-star CB Rodrick Pleasant names top five schools, moves up commitment
Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra four-star cornerback Rodrick Pleasant is down to five schools in his recruitment, and he has a new date for his commitment.
Pleasant announced on Tuesday that he will commit on February 1, and will choose from a top five that includes Oregon, Boston College, USC, UCLA and Cal.
The 5-foot-10, 167-pounder is the No. 94 overall prospect and No. 8 cornerback in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 7 player in California.
USC is the current favorite to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). It gives the Trojans an 82.9 percent chance of securing his commitment.
Ahead of his commitment, Pleasant has teamed up with Prospex, an NIL platform that connects fans and players through the digital sales of playing cards.
Players will name up to 10 possible programs, and fans will be able to buy a card of a player and that team. When a player makes a decision and enrolls at their chosen school, fans will receive either a physical or web3 collectable version of the card. Players receive 85 percent of the sales revenues from the cards sold to fans of the program they decided to enroll in and attend.
Pleasant currently has cards available for each of his five finalists.
Rodrick Pleasant On3 Scouting Summary
The following is the On3 Scouting Summary for Rodrick Pleasant:
“Versatile speedster who has a claim as the fastest prospect in the 2023 cycle. Set the California state record with a historic 10.14 second mark in the 100 meters in the state finals as a junior. Also ran an outstanding 20.40 second time in the 200 meters. One of the fastest prep sprinters in the nation. Has a smaller frame at 5-foot-10 and around 170 pounds. Plays all over the field at Gardena Serra, but most likely projects as a cornerback long-term.
“Has the speed to stick in the hip pocket of wide receivers on Friday nights. Also shows excellent makeup speed when out of phase in the camp setting. A willing tackler as a run defender. A threat to score anytime the ball is in his hands as a receiver or kick returner. Lacks some length for the position with a neutral wing-span and will need to show he can make plays on the ball in contested situations.”
