Sam Pittman a fan of Lane Kiffin being in the SEC

Lane Kiffin is the subject of a new ESPN documentary titled “E60: The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” which debuts on Sept. 24 at 7 pm ET on ESPN. The hour-long E60 documentary will feature the sixth-year Ole Miss head coach reflecting on his nearly three decades in coaching as he “grapples with his legacy and reflects on the coach, father and person he wants to be,” according to the ESPN release.
The 50-year-old Kiffin is famous for his powerful and playful personality, penchant for social media trolling and two infamous firings from the former Oakland Raiders in 2008 and USC on a tarmac midway through the 2013 season. But it’s during his last six seasons in Oxford that Kiffin has come into his own as both a successful collegiate head coach and in his personal life, including recently reconnecting with his ex-wife.
Still, there are some — mostly from opposing SEC fanbases — that still question whether Kiffin is a “fit” in the league. Well, Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman has an answer for those critics ahead of the Razorbacks’ 2025 SEC opener Saturday at No. 17 Ole Miss (7 pm ET, ESPN).
“Yes, I think it’s good having him in the league. A lot of people don’t know him like I do. He’s a good person, he’s a good man. He just wants to win games, and that’s what he’s been hired to do,” Pittman said during a press conference Tuesday. “But I think he brings something to the league. You’re always talking about Ole Miss and the SEC is attached to that. So, yeah, I think he’s good for the league.”
Kiffin has transformed the Rebels into an annual SEC contender having won at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons. In fact, Kiffin is 46-18 across his six seasons at Ole Miss, including going 11-2 in 2023 and 10-3 in 2024 before just missing out on making the College Football Playoff‘s first 12-team field as the 14th-ranked team in the CFP’s final rankings after Championship Weekend.
Greg McElroy sides with Ole Miss over Arkansas
The Razorbacks are 6.5-point underdogs to the Rebels in Oxford this weekend, per BetMGM. Ole Miss failed to cover the spread last weekend, and Arkansas has been known to play the Rebels close over the years. Six of the last 10 meetings have been decided by one score.
ESPN’s Greg McElroy broke down the upcoming matchup, alluding to the two teams’ history for his final prediction on the game. Ole Miss has won the last three games that were decided by less than a touchdown or less, and McElroy expects history to repeat itself.

“Ole Miss has not generated a lot of takeaways. They forced just one turnover through two games,” McElroy explained on his show, Always College Football. “Now, Arkansas has shown the ability to pressure the quarterback and create turnovers — four sacks, two interceptions against Arkansas State by itself. … Arkansas is 7-1 against the spread on the road since the start of last season. Arkansas is 22-11-1 against the spread as an underdog under Sam Pittman, 15-5-1 against the spread on the road under Pittman, and 13-4 against the spread as a road underdog.
“I’ll take Ole Miss, but I think this game will be closer than the experts think. I think it has a chance to be pretty high scoring and I like both offenses that’ll be on the field.”
