Support for FBS split from NCAA 'isn't there' among athletic directors
The LEAD1 AD Summit took place Wednesday in Washington D.C., bringing athletic directors from across the country together to discuss the future of FBS football governance. When regarding a potential split from the NCAA, according to SI’s Ross Dellenger, the general consensus is to keep the FBS within the NCAA with a streamlined FBS-only policy-making group.
“The Transformation Committee is exploring the FBS governance issue, and the goal is to find a way to keep FBS under the NCAA umbrella with more authority given to it, such as an FBS-only board, etc. Despite buzz lately of an FBS split, the AD support for it isn’t there,” Dellenger wrote.
The momentum to split the FBS from the NCAA is fading, as many have expected despite the buzz. Any new entity that the FBS would eventually align with (the CFP, for example) would have to take on much of what the NCAA does regarding legal, compliance, enforcement, etc.
NCAA tells schools to withdraw recent transfer portal entries
Despite the new NCAA transfer portal windows that went into effect August 31, which were essentially supposed to end portal activity for football programs until early December, there had still been 19 Division I scholarship football players entered into the portal these last two weeks. It led to confusion for many football recruiting staffers around the country.

Now, there’s been a resolution, though. The NCAA has informed schools to withdraw fall sport portal entries (including football) that have been created since the NCAA Board of Directors approved the transfer portal windows Aug. 31, sources tell On3.
The NCAA Division I council will discuss at a meeting next Wednesday whether graduate transfers should be exempt from the transfer portal windows, according to sources.
