Texas fans hit Diego Pavia with 'overrated' chant after touchdown run

Diego Pavia scored on a touchdown on a 25-yard run in the fourth quarter against Texas, cutting into their lead late. After the score, Longhorns fans chanted “overrated” to the Vanderbilt quarterback trailing 34-16 to let Pavia know exactly what they think of him.
Things got a little chippy after Pavia entered the end zone. Away from the play, Texas DB Malik Muhammad and Vanderbilt WR Junior Sherrill got into it. At the same time, DB Xavier Filsaime appeared to shoulder check Pavia after entering the end zone. Commodores RB AJ Newberry appeared to say something to Filsaime after the hit.
Two penalties were called on the play, which offset. Vanderbilt would go for a two-point conversion instead of the point-after attempt. It was unsuccessful, and the Longhorns maintained their three-score lead.
Vanderbilt would go on to capitalize on their next drive following a missed Texas field goal. Pavia connected to one of the nation’s premier tight ends, Eli Stowers, for a 67-yard touchdown before finding Sherrill for the successful two-point conversion.
That’s a 14-point swing in Vanderbilt’s favor after entering the fourth quarter trailing by 24 points. Vanderbilt has not led at any point during the game, and would be a miraculous comeback if they’re able to pull it off.

This comes after Texas scored the first 17 points of the game, leading 24-3 before halftime. Pavia was able to hook up with Stowers for an 18-yard touchdown strike with 11 seconds left in the first half. However, Texas would score the only 10 points of the third quarter to further push their lead, causing Vanderbilt to play catch up late in the game.
For the Commodores to win, they’ll have to rely on the arm of their star quarterback just as they’ve done all season long. Even when the game appeared to be out of reach, Pavia has appeared to give Vanderbilt a shot to come back — cutting the lead to as low as three points in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
If Texas holds on, the Longhorns would improve to 7-2 on the season, setting up a massive matchup on the road against Georgia after their Week 11 bye. For Vanderbilt, they’ll host the Auburn Tigers up next. Fans can watch what has quickly become an interesting final stretch live on ABC.
