Former Alabama and Texas tight end Jahleel Billingsley will get a chance at the next level despite not hearing his name called at the 2023 NFL Draft. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, the Tennessee Titans will have Billingsley participate in rookie minicamp beginning later in May.

“Former Texas and Alabama tight end Jahleel Billingsley will participate in rookie minicamp with the #Titans on a tryout basis, a source tells @on3sports,” Zenitz said. “At Texas’ pro day, Billingsley ran a 4.57 40 and recorded a 36-inch vertical jump.”

Despite declaring for the draft, Billingsley did not receive an invite to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He had to showcase his talents in front of league personnel in Austin, participating in Texas’ Pro Day. As the numbers provided by Zenitz show, there are good traits there for a tight end.

Billingsley has not officially been signed by the Titans and will instead have a chance of proving himself in an NFL setting. If he does make the roster, he will be joining a Tennessee draft class headlined by quarterback Will Levis. Offensive lineman Peter Skoronski was the first-round selection by general manager Ron Carthon.

More on Jahleel Billingsley, time in college

Billingsley began his career at Alabama, being labeled as a potential breakout star following a strong 2020 season. However, things never quite panned out in Tuscaloosa, with Billingsley eventually entering the NCAA transfer portal following his 37 receptions for 559 yards and one touchdown.

The last contribution in an Alabama jersey from Billingsley came during the College Football Playoff semifinal game against Cincinnati.

Billingsley then decided to reconvene with Jeff Banks and Steve Sarkisian at Texas, hoping to get back to the form he was in during the 2020 season. Billingsley appeared in just for games though, catching three passes for 38 yards and no touchdowns. The Longhorns’ road win against Oklahoma State in October is when most of the product came, having two receptions for 33 yards.

After the season was done, the decision was to move on to the NFL. While the past weekend did not produce anything, there is now a big opportunity ahead of Billingsley.

Billingsley played high school football at Chicago (IL) Phillips Academy, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 290 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
