MLB All-Star week from Atlanta is nearly upon us. Baseball does a great job of including all levels of the sport, including the game’s future. Just a few days before the ASG takes place, Commissioner Rob Manfred will host the 2025 MLB Draft.

Updated information comes nearly every single day before the show begins. And MLB Pipeline is on top of it all, recently releasing their latest mock draft.

A major shakeup took place inside the top five, as three pitchers elevated their status. There might be some interest in what the St. Louis Cardinals do with the fifth overall pick as well. You can check out the full first-round mock here.

1. Washington Nationals – LSU LHP Kade Anderson

If Anderson does wind up going the top overall spot, his performances in Omaha at the College World Series might be a big reason why. Plus, Washington has recent history of taking LSU players high up in the draft.

MLB Pipeline: “Anderson fills a greater need and will get to Washington quicker than Holliday, and he might cost a little less as well.”

2. Los Angeles Angels – Tennessee LHP Liam Doyle

As MLB Pipeline says, Los Angeles loves players who can make their way to the Majors quite quickly. No better option than the Tennessee ace, once considered a potential selection at No. 1.

MLB Pipeline: “The Angels love to expedite their first-rounders to the Majors and could do so with any of the top college southpaws (Anderson, Doyle, Arnold), all of whom are in their sights.”

3. Seattle Mariners – Corona (CA) RHP Seth Hernandez (Vanderbilt commit)

The first high school name, Hernandez does have one thing working against him. However, the talent may be too much for Seattle to pass on after being the big winner of the lottery.

MLB Pipeline: “They’re intrigued by Hernandez, who may be the most talented player available but comes from a demographic (high school right-hander) that usually scares off teams at the top of the Draft.”

4. Colorado Rockies – Stillwater (OK) SS Ethan Holliday (Oklahoma State commit)

Another Holliday is making their way into professional baseball. If he does not join his brother on the East Coast, this appears to be the absolute lowest Holliday goes.

MLB Pipeline: “The biggest lock in the Draft is that the Rockies will take Holliday if he gets to them, and he might get paid more here than at No. 1.”

5. St. Louis Cardinals – Auburn C/OF Ike Irish

Irish was one of the best hitters in college basketball this past season and even comes with position versatility. However, he might be willing to take a discount and attract teams such as St. Louis earlier than projected.

MLB Pipeline: “Assuming the Cardinals won’t get a shot at Holliday or Anderson, this decision may come down to cutting a deal with Irish or dipping into the deep prep shortstop pool for Parker or Willits.”

6. Pittsburgh Pirates – Oregon State SS Aiva Arquette

Finding pitching prospects is not an issue for Pittsburgh. But outside of Konnor Griffin, there is not much to talk about on the offensive end. Arquette will give the system an instant boost.

MLB Pipeline: “The Pirates will sift through some combination of Hernandez, Arnold, Willits, Arquette, Carlson, Doyle and Witherspoon while also considering discount deals.”

7. Miami Marlins – Fort Cobb-Broxton (OK) SS Eli Willits (Oklahoma commit)

Apparently, Willits being who the Marlins want is pretty well known. Well, MLB Pipeline gives them their guy, sending the Oklahoma commit down to Miami-Dade County.

MLB Pipeline: “It’s no secret that the Marlins covet Willits.”

8. Toronto Blue Jays – Florida State LHP Jamie Arnold

The third and final left-handed pitcher considered to be a top, top talent, Arnold appears to fit in nicely with the Blue Jays. It’s an organization with a recent history of taking college arms and finding success.

MLB Pipeline: “The Blue Jays are mostly associated with college arms and high school shortstops, which not coincidentally are the two most fertile areas at the top of the Draft.”

9. Cincinnati Reds – Corona (HS) SS Billy Carlson (Tennessee commit)

After an early run on college pitchers and high school shortstops, Cincinnati’s approach looks to be a simple one. Take the best player available and add another guy to an already young organization.

MLB Pipeline: “The Reds will take the best available player who remains on their board.”

10. Chicago White Sox – Purvis (MS) SS JoJo Parker (Mississippi State commit)

MLB Pipeline says the White Sox want to select a high school shortstop to add to the farm system. Good news — this is the draft to have that specific desire.

MLB Pipeline: “The White Sox are locked in on high school shortstops and Parker may be their favorite.”
