Caleb Williams breaks down what he has improved on in camp

Caleb Williams was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft but there’s always room to improve. In June, the Chicago Bears quarterback revealed how he’s grown during his short time with the organization.
“I feel that progression-wise going through all the reads, throwing a little better with anticipation, getting get more reps with the wide receivers, that obviously helps,” Williams said. “So with all the reps that we’ve been able to get and obtain, it’s been huge. So just like today, I feel like progression-wise, being able to throw a little bit more anticipation was a little small step for me.”
If the former USC standout can continue to improve, the NFL could be in trouble. In the 2022 campaign, Williams threw for 4,537 yards, ran for 382 yards and totaled 50 touchdowns — 40 in the air and 10 on the ground. He was named the Heisman Trophy winner for his efforts.
In 2023, Williams could not replicate his outlandish success but he still was a star on the field. He threw for 3,633 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to go with 11 rushing scores. USC finished the season with a 7-5 record, but Williams never gave up on his Trojans.
He will need the same determination at the next level. The Chicago Bears have not had a winning season since 2018 when they went 12-4 in the regular season before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Last season, the Bears posted a 7-10 record, a significant improvement from the team’s 3-14 mark during their first year under head coach Matt Eberflus in 2022. While Caleb Williams doesn’t necessarily expect immediate success, he will do whatever it takes to see the Bears prosper.
“I didn’t come in necessarily with the expectation to be and seem like a 13-year vet,” Williams said. “I came in to work, to work my tail off, show the guys that I’m here, I’m working my tail off, I’m progressing and trying not to make the same mistake again.
“That’s the biggest thing, day in and day out, is trying not to make the same mistake over and over and learn from them. That’s been my biggest thing for me. And also understanding that I’m leading an organization and a team, so just having that mindset and being in that mind state and just trying to find my flow.”
