Carolina Panthers sign former first-round DB Caleb Farley to active roster

The Carolina Panthers are signing former first-round pick defensive back Caleb Farley to their active roster, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Panthers are signing Tennessee’s former first-round pick Caleb Farley to their active roster, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey,” Schefter posted on X. “Farley has battled through injuries and more to make it back.”
Farley, a first-round pick out of Virginia Tech, who played with the Tennessee Titans since the 2021 NFL Draft, has dealt with a myriad of issues since coming into the league.
He played only three games in his rookie season before suffering a torn ACL. He bounced back to appear in nine contests in 2022 and record 10 tackles. Unfortunately, he spent all of 2023 on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

The Titans released him in August just before the start of the regular season. Carolina then signed him to their practice squad, where he’s been since. Now, he’s getting his shot. Injuries have gotten in his way in the pros, but he’ll be hoping to showcase the talent he had in college with the Hokies.
Farley was named first team All-ACC as a senior at Virginia Tech in 2019. He recorded a league-high 16 passes defended to go along with four interceptions as the Hokies finished 8-5.
The Panthers won’t exactly be competing, but perhaps they can find a diamond in the rough in Caleb Farley in 2024. Sometimes all you need is an opportunity, and that’s what the former top pick is getting over the remainder of this NFL season.
