CeeDee Lamb, DeMarvion Overshawn trade shots using OU-Texas rivalry

The Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas is one of the most well-known and fiercest for fans of each school. For alumni of both teams, such as CeeDee Lamb and DeMarvion Overshown, it doesn’t get any less intense once you’re out of college either.
The Dallas Cowboys stars exchanged a pair of jabs on social media over the weekend that were OU-Texas related. Lamb, a Sooners alum, was pictured alongside newly acquired receiver George Pickens at training camp and looked to be making a hand signal that closely resembled the “Hook ‘Em Horns.” Overshown, who played at Texas, saw the photo and couldn’t help but make a comment about it, quoting it on X alongside the Longhorns mascot.
Lamb wasn’t going to let the insinuation that he was doing anything pro-Texas slide, though. He quickly responded to his teammate’s post to clear up that he was absolutely not making the “Hook ‘Em Horns” sign.
“You do realize, i’m showing the back of my hand right?” he said. “Me and Texas will never go together, sorry.”
Lamb has a point, as the “Hook ‘Em Horns” gesture is typically made with the hand facing forward. The gesture that he was making could have easily been a “rock on” sign and nothing more.
Lamb played for the Sooners from 2017-19 and was 3-1 against the Longhorns in that span. That included defeating Texas in the 2018 Big 12 Championship game, where he had six catches for 167 yards and a touchdown.

Overshown played at Texas from 2018-22, so the pair played against each other three times in their college careers. However, Overshown was still in the early part of his career for those first two seasons and was not yet a full-time starter for the defense.
Fast forward to now and both play key roles for the Cowboys heading into the 2025 season. Lamb has been the team’s leading receiver each of the past four seasons and is expected to again carry the load for the passing attack this year.
Overshown is getting ready to enter his third season with the team, but is coming off of a torn ACL, MCL and PCL suffered in December. He is expected to miss some of the 2025 season as a result but will return to the field potentially as soon as October.
For now, DeMarvion Overshown has bragging rights over CeeDee Lamb as Texas defeated OU last year in the Red River Rivalry. But the receiver will hope the Sooners can get back on the right side of the rivalry when they play the Longhorns this year on Oct. 11.
