Mississippi State baseball commit JoJo Parker has been selected in the 2025 MLB Draft. The versatile young prospect was drafted No. 8 overall by the JoJo Parker.

Parker played both shortstop and pitcher for Purvis (MS) High School, and is the twin brother of fellow Bulldogs commit, Jacob Parker. JoJo is expected to play shortstop at the next level, whether that be in college or in the minor leagues.

While both are highly-rated coming out of the high school ranks, JoJo Parker emerged as the best player in his state after a stellar senior season at Purvis. He batted .489 with 13 home runs, 64 runs scored and 35 RBI this past season — including 30 stolen bases. For his efforts, he was named 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Mississippi.

“Parker has a chance to be a plus hitter with 20-25 homers per season. He has a sound left-handed swing, manages the strike zone well and employs a gap-to-gap approach. He shows some feel for driving balls in the air and is posting more impressive exit velocities as he continues to gain muscle,” his MLB scouting report reads.

“While Parker will get the chance to play shortstop at the next level and his solid arm strength, his actions and quickness are just average. That likely will dictate a move to second or third base in the future, though he should provide enough offense to profile at either position.”

He has been compared to Carter Johnson, who was a second-round draft choice for the Miami Marlins last July. Johnson opted to skip college after his high draft designation.

JoJo Parker was rated as the No. 9 overall prospect in this year’s draft cycle, while his fraternal twin brother was rated No. 109 overall coming into this year’s annual event.

It remains to be seen if the Parker twins decide to split up after the draft. Both have the option to play for Mississippi State next season, while it’s also possible that JoJo turns pro and Jacob returns to college, or vice versa. Their ultimate decision remains to be seen.

If one or both Parker twin has does choose to have their college career begin with the Bulldogs under new head coach Brian O’Connor. He’s set to lead the Mississippi State baseball program moving forward after an incredibly successful stint at Virginia, which saw him lead the Cavaliers to the 2015 College World Series championship.
