2026 QB Cole Bergeron decommits from Virginia Tech
Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More three-star quarterback Cole Bergeron has decommitted from Virginia Tech.
He was pledged to the Hokies since Aug. 7, when he chose the ACC program over Colorado and Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech fired head coach Brent Pry earlier this fall and has since replaced him with James Franklin.
Bergeron is the No. 617 overall prospect and No. 40 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 20 player in Louisiana.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder is back on the board is now back on the board with less than 48 hours until National Signing Day begins.

The Hokies offered Bergeron in the summer and immediately stood out, but with Virginia Tech now trending as the favorite to land former Penn State four-star commit Troy Huhn, he is exploring other options.
Minnesota has long been a contender to flip Bergeron, and that only intensified when Key was fired. Last week, Dylan Callaghan-Croley of GophersNation.com shared that newly uncommitted passer is their top target at the position.
“The Gophers’ perceived preferred option at this time is that of Louisiana three-star Cole Bergeron, a Virginia Tech commitment,” he wrote at the time. “The Gophers hosted Bergeron on campus earlier this month for an official visit, and coming out of that visit, Minnesota was in a great spot — enough for ourselves as well as Rivals’ national recruiting analysts Sam Spiegelman and Steve Wiltfong to put in RPMs in favor of Minnesota.”
