2027 4-star LB Quinton Cyphers sets commitment date
Quinton Cypher has had a commitment on his mind for weeks, but the 2027 four-star linebacker out of Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook stayed locked in on the field first. After helping lead Millbrook to the state championship game last week, Cypher is now ready to turn his full attention to recruiting and take the next step in his process.
The No. 167 prospect in the Rivals Industry Ranking has now locked in a commitment date and will choose between Alabama, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State, setting the stage for one of the more closely watched linebacker decisions in the 2027 class.
“I will be committing on Friday (Dec. 19) at 2:45pm ET,” Cypher told Rivals.
What will separate one schoool apart at the top?
“It is hard to say. My mind will just figure it out. I don’t think one thing is going to swing the momentum one way. I think I will just feel it when it is the right time and the right school.”
The Bulldogs and Buckeyes have been battling for that top spot.
“Georgia and Ohio State are definitely up there as my top two,” Cypher said in a recent interview. “Miami and Alabama are up there too. What puts Georgia and Ohio State at the top are the type of programs they are. They have great history with great coaches and great cultures. Year in and year out, they are national championship teams. They are constantly in the mix, and both are schools I could see myself playing for. Georgia was the first SEC school to offer me and both have been recruiting me extremely hard.”
More on Georgia and Ohio State
Cypher has been to Georgia six times, including visits this fall for the Alabama and Texas games. He has visited Ohio State twice, attending the Penn State game this season and the Nebraska game last year.

On Georgia: “I really like the way they coach and develop linebackers. They’ve had multiple Butkus Award winners and they’ve put top linebackers into the NFL. They recruit well in North Carolina too. I like how they develop linebackers and utilize them in their defense.”
On Ohio State: “Coach Day and coach Patricia are great coaches. Coach Patricia is a great upgrade there — he has coached at the highest level and won multiple Super Bowls, so he’s a great addition to Ohio State. Coiach Laurinaitis played at Ohio State and he is one of the best to ever play linebacker there, so I like him a lot.”
He emphasized that neither program has the edge yet.
“I still have a lot to think about,” he said.
Alabama and Miami are still in play
“I was at both schools for a game this season. They are still high on my list too,” Cypher said. “Alabama has a lot of history. They win — it’s Alabama. I like coach DeBoer, coach Wommack and coach Morrell. They are all great teachers.”
“Miami has history too. Coach Heatherman is a great defensive coach. He was great in Minnesota and he has helped Miami’s defense improve a lot. Miami is in the playoffs and they are playing great.”
