Powder Springs (Ga.) Hillgrove three-star EDGE Chris Carbin earned an offer from Georgia Tech on Jan. 23. 35 other schools offered the 6-foot-3.5, 230-pound pass rusher and it came down to the Yellow Jackets and Mississippi State

Georgia Tech pushed hard for Carbin and its effort paid off. That is because the Georgia native has committed to the Yellow Jackets and will be staying home for his college football career.

“I knew it was Georgia Tech from the beginning and when I stepped foot on campus,” Carbin told Rivals. “This is it. This is home for me.”

“I’ve been to Georgia Tech a good amount of times and it is the best vibe that I’ve experienced at a school,” he added. “I love it and it loves me. That’s my home.”

Following his pledge to the ACC program, Carbin is “shutting down” his recruitment. Georgia Tech stood out to him for multiple reasons.

“I love Georgia Tech because of the experience and the culture there, the love they showed me and the players,” Carbin said. “The coaches – including coach Blake Gideon, coach Kyle Pope and coach Brent Key – all told me that they want me to play for them. They want my four years in college spent at Georgia Tech. They were the first coaches to ever tell me the pros and cons of my game. Georgia Tech is super close to home and they always have a great hometown feeling.”

Key and Pope are two coaches with the Yellow Jackets that have impressed Carbin. They are Georgia Tech’s head coach and outside linebackers/defensive ends coach, respectively. Gideon – the Yellow Jackets’ defensive coordinator – has also gotten to know the three-star.

“I have the best relationship on the staff with coach Pope,” Carbin said. “It’s because he tells me the truth. He’s going to help me improve my game and be a better person in life. He is a great coach and a great all-around person. He is someone that I would love to coach me for my next four years here.”

“Coach Key is one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around,” he added. “He tells the truth about everything and he’s never going to tell you a lie. He is always going to tell you the truth and hold you accountable. He’s never going to talk down to you or anyone on the team. He will always have you work hard and to the fullest.”
