Illinois continues to roll on recruiting trail as four-star Casey Thomann talks commitment to Illini

Olney (Ill.) High four-star offensive lineman Casey Thomann announced his commitment to Illinois on Tuesday morning, another big recruiting win for head coach Bret Bielema and his staff.

The 6-foot-7, 310-pound Thoman said he chose the Illini over his other top schools in Iowa, Iowa State, Northwestern and Nebraska.

“It’s a place I’ve known for awhile,” Thoman said. “It’s in my home state. I’ve been on many visits. I’ve been with that coaching staff for years now. It felt like the best place for me athletically, academically and socially.”

Thomann is commit No. 10 for Illinois in the 2026 cycle, adding to a class the On3 Industry previously ranked No. 18 nationally. Coming off a 10-win season including a victory over South Carolina in the Citrus Bowl has propelled the Big Ten program on the trail.

“I think a big part of it is Coach B and his coaching staff and how much input he put in the program,” Thomann said. “Their success, especially in-state guys, for Coach B be able to grow that program is incredible and I’m happy part of it.”

On3 tabs Thomas as the No. 29 offensive tackle in the land and No. 10 overall prospect in the state.

“It’s home,” he added. “Everywhere in my hometown and around me it’s all Illini. It’s just the best fit for me and I’m ready to get to work.”
