Mater Dei's game versus Bishop Montgomery canceled

Coming off a hard earned 26-23 win over St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) this past Saturday at the Broward County Classic High School Football Showcase, Mater Dei will earn its second victory without even having to take the field.
According to a press release by Mater Dei’s football program, the top-ranked Monarchs’ Week 2 opponent, Bishop Montgomery, has forfeited its matchup due to a lack of available players.
This morning, Mater Dei High School was informed by Bishop Montgomery High School that they are unable to compete in the scheduled varsity football game at the Santa Ana Bowl on Friday, August 29.
As a result, the game has been officially canceled. While we share in the disappointment of our players, families, and fans, we are proud of the hard work and preparation our Monarchs have put into this season thus far.
Mater Dei High School wishes Bishop Montgomery High School the best moving forward this season. We appreciate the continued support of our student-athletes, coaches, and fans, and we look forward to our next scheduled game on Friday, September 5 against Kahuku.
Bishop Montgomery has been faced with a number of issues of late, including having 20-plus incoming transfers ruled ineligible by the CIF Southern Section for breaking Bylaw 202, which is listed by the association as ‘Penalty for Providing Incorrect, Inaccurate, Incomplete or False Information.’
Though the team was short-handed, the Knights still traveled to Hawaii to face powerhouse St. Louis, the No. 1 in Hawaii. Tempers flared on both sides throughout the contest, a 34-27 loss, leading to a bench-clearing confrontation in the game’s final seconds.

CIF Southern Section rules require an automatic one-game suspension for players that leave the sideline.
“They’re poor sports, hitting our guys (on the sideline). Their coaches were chirping and hitting our guys (during the game),” St. Louis head coach Tupu Alualu said according to a report by the The Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
Next time Mater Dei will take the field is at home on Sept. 5 against Kahuku (Hawaii).
