Nation's top 2027 recruit LaDamion Guyton sets commitment date

LaDamion Guyton, the nation’s No. 1 overall football recruit in the junior class, is ready to announce his college commitment.
On Tuesday, Guyton’s school — Benedictine Military — announced that he would be making his decision public Thursday, August 7 at the school’s gymnasium. He hasn’t named a list of top schools, but holds offers from Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, USC, Florida, Texas Tech and dozens of other major programs.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder is the No. 1 overall recruit in the Rivals300 rankings for the 2027 class and checks in at No. 2 in the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services.
Guyton transferred during this offseason from Savannah Christian — where he played his first two seasons — to Benedictine, which plays at Georgia’s 4A level.
“It was a tough decision to transfer and there were a lot of personal factors involved,” Guyton told the Savannah Morning News. “But the main thing was I think playing at Benedictine will open up opportunities for me by going against better competition. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot playing for Savannah Christian, but I think Benedictine is the best place for me now.”

In-state Georgia has long been considered the favorites to keep him at home for college, but in recent months Texas Tech has emerged as a contender — if not the outright favorite — to land him. Last month, Tech recruiting insider Ben Golan and Rivals national analyst Sam Spiegelman both logged expert predictions in favor of the Red Raiders.
If Joey McGuire and Co. can pull off landing him, it would be their second massive five-star commitment this summer. In July, they beat out Texas, Ohio State and a host of others for 2026 five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo. The No. 12 prospect in the class, Ojo reportedly signed a revenue-sharing deal with Tech that will pay him a minimum of $775K per year and could rise as high as $1.5 million per season.
Scouting LaDamion Guyton, the nation’s top edge rusher
Rivals’ Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power writes this about him as a prospect:
“Guyton is the early favorite as the top EDGE prospect in the 2027 cycle. Explosive, powerful pass rusher with elite bend around the edge at an early stage. Flashes high-end first-step quickness. Stays very low while running the arc, dipping his shoulder to shirk offensive tackles. Converts speed to power with ease. Also shows early signs of good hand usage, quickly disengaging on contact. Plays with a high motor and pursues plays from sideline to sideline. Productive in his first two varsity seasons at Savannah (Ga.) Savannah Christian, totaling 33 tackles for loss while playing alongside Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Transferred to Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military for his junior season. Can improve his finishing ability in the backfield, as his ability to disrupt doesn’t always manifest in dominant stats. Length and frame are average for the position.”
As a freshman, Guyton was an All-Greater Savannah first-team selection after recording 82 tackles, with 19.5 for losses, to go along with 10 sacks. In his second year at the high school level, he totaled 52 tackles, including 13.5 for loss, to go with 6.5 sacks.
