2026 3-star DL David Schwerzel commits to Stanford

On Sunday, Stanford football landed a commitment from 2026 3-star defensive lineman David Schwerzel out of O’Dea High School in Seattle, Washington. Schwerzel was committed to UCLA earlier, but due to the coaching change that occurred, he re-opened his recruitment and in the end decided that Stanford was the right place for him.
Via Adam Gorney: Stanford lands commitment from 3-star DL David Schwerzel
Listed at 6’3”, 260 pounds, Schwerzel is incredibly nimble given his size. He has great pass rush instincts and an array of moves that makes him difficult to contain. He gets after the quarterback with great pursuit and has a terrific motor. Just all-around a great feel for getting tackles for loss and stopping guys in their tracks.
While he is committed to play defense for the Cardinal, Schwerzel plays tight end in high school and is great on that side of the ball as well. He is a good route runner and has nice hands. Given his agility, size, and speed, he’s difficult for opposing defenses to bring down. His tight end skills should serve him well when he plays defense.
In addition to UCLA and Stanford, Michigan State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Washington, Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Toledo offered him as well. So there was decent competition for Stanford to land his services. The difference was they remained persistent and in the end were rewarded for doing so. It’ll be fun to see what Schwerzel brings to The Farm and the impact that he makes on the Cardinal defense.
