Minnesota loses commitment from JUCO WR Derrick Salley
For the second time in three days, the Minnesota Golden Gophers have lost a commitment, this time from JUCO wide receiver Derrick Salley.
The Hutchinson Community College standout announced on Tuesday evening that he was backing off his commitment to the Gophers that came just 16 days ago.
“After thoughtful consideration and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Minnesota,” Salley said in a statement. “I want to sincerely thank Coach Fleck, the entire coaching staff, and the Minnesota program for their belief in me and the opportunity they have extended.”
Salley committed to the Golden Gophers originally over offers from Boise State, Illinois, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State, among numerous Group of Six offers.
Salley is the second decommitment this week for Minnesota
Salley joins three-star running back Jett Walker among prospects to decommit from the program this week. Walker flipped his own commitment on Sunday night to the in-state Texas Longhorns after an official visit to Austin for the Longhorns’ matchup against Arkansas.
With Salley’s decommitment, the Gophers now hold 29 commitments in their 2026 recruiting class. He is the sixth prospect to decommit from the Gophers this cycle, joining OT Daniel McMorris, OT Mataali Benjamin, RB Jett Walker, WR Kai Meza, and TE/LB Charlie Jilek.
