Alabama names players of the week; SEC recognizes Campbell, Reichard

Alabama Football LB Jihaad Campbell recaps win over Tennessee

The Alabama coaching staff selected eight players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 34-20 win against then-No. 17/15 Tennessee last Saturday. Jase McClellan and Jaeden Roberts on offense; Chris Braswell, Jihaad Campbell, Justin Eboigbe and Deontae Lawson on defense; and Jam Miller and Will Reichard on special teams were all named for their efforts against the Volunteers.

OFFENSE

Jase McClellan

  • Put together a standout performance against the Vols as the Crimson Tide leaned on him in the run game
  • Carried the ball a career-high 27 times for 115 yards and a touchdown
  • Had a long rush of 29 and converted five first downs while averaging 4.3 yards per tote

Jaeden Roberts

  • Excelled in his third straight start at right guard
  • Opened holes for 122 rushing yards and 225 total yards of offense in the second half as the Tide stormed back for the win after halftime
  • Did not allow a sack, quarterback pressure or a quarterback hit across his time on the field

DEFENSE

Chris Braswell

  • Totaled four tackles on the day, including two sacks (-16 yards)
  • Forced a key fumble with a sack late in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Tide
  • Also contributed one quarterback hurry

Jihaad Campbell

  • Picked up the fumble forced by Braswell, carrying the ball 24 yards into the end zone to make it a two-score game
  • Also contributed 10 tackles to rank second on UA
  • Notched one tackle for loss (-4 yards), stopping the Vols on fourth down to give the Tide excellent field position

Justin Eboigbe

  • Played a key role in helping Alabama shut out the Vols in the second half
  • Finished with a career-high eight tackles, including 1.5 for loss (-1 yard)

Deontae Lawson

  • Led the Tide defense with 12 total stops
  • Also broke up one pass and pressured to Vols’ quarterback once

SPECIAL TEAMS

Jam Miller

  • Continued his steady play on special teams
  • Made a big stop on punt coverage late in the fourth quarter to give the Vols unfavorable field position

Will Reichard

  • Contributed 10 points in the rivalry matchup
  • Made all four PATs while hitting on field goals of 42 and 50
  • Added seven kickoffs for 451 yards to average 64.4 yards per boot with five touchbacks

Campbell, Reichard recognized by SEC

Alabama’s Jihaad Campbell and Will Reichard each earned weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, the league office announced on Monday morning. Campbell was selected as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week while Reichard was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

The weekly conference honor is the first for Campbell and second for Reichard this year. They are also the Tide’s eighth and ninth overall this season.

  • Played a key role in shutting out the Vols after halftime while limiting UT to just 129 second-half yards
  • Picked up a Joe Milton fumble and raced 24 yards for a touchdown to give UA a two-score lead late
  • Also contributed 10 tackles, including one for loss (-4 yards)

Special Teams Player of the Week
Will Reichard

  • Scored 10 points in a 34-20 come-from-behind victory over the Volunteers
  • Connected on field goals of 42 and 50 yards while adding three PATs
  • Kicked off seven times with five touchbacks and an average of 64.4 yards per boot
