Alabama opens preseason camp later this afternoon, and before the first of 20 practices, there has been a change to the roster. Wide receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell, a redshirt junior, was removed from the Crimson Tide’s online roster on Tuesday. Mike Rodak of Bama247 first reported it.

Jones-Bell went through spring practice but will not be participating in Alabama’s fall camp prior to the 2023 campaign. A native of Hallandale, Fla., Jones-Bell appeared in 12 games over the last three years, serving as a reserve wide receiver and contributor on special teams. He caught four passes for 19 yards, with a long gain of eight yards, during his Crimson Tide career.

Jones-Bell was part of Alabama’s 2020 signing class, which ranked No. 2 in the nation per the On3 Industry Rankings. The 6-foot, 190-pound wideout was a 4-star recruit out of Miami Carol City and was considered the 143rd-best overall prospect and the No. 24 receiver in the class of 2020. He is the 13th member of that signing class to move on from the Alabama program.

With Jones-Bell’s removal from the online roster, the Tide is left with 11 wide receivers for the start of preseason practice. Since the 2022 season ended – and even before its conclusion – a total of six wide receivers have left UA, with five entering the transfer portal. The list includes Aaron Anderson, JoJo Earle, Tyler Harrell, Traeshon Holden and Christian Leary, as well.

Alabama is set to hit the practice field for its first preseason workout at 2:30 p.m. CT. UA head coach Nick Saban is scheduled to speak to reporters after the conclusion of today’s practice.
