Alabama wide receiver Agiye Hall officially entered the transfer portal on Thursday afternoon. This news comes from On3 college football reporter Matt Zenitz. At this point, the decision from Hall shouldn’t come as a shock for anyone who has been following the situation over the last few days.

Earlier this week, Hall was removed from Alabama’s official online roster. Then on Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban provided clarity on the situation that made it seem as though a return would not be in the cards. Now, Hall is looking to finish his playing career elsewhere.

In his lone season at Alabama, the Valrico (Fla.) Bloomingdale product appeared in seven games, hauling in four catches for 72 yards. His most extensive playing time came in the national title game against Georgia where he brought in two receptions for 52 yards.

Coming out of high school, On3 ranked Hall as the nation’s top wide receiver and No. 11 overall player. The Consensus rankings were a little bit lower, marking him as a four-star and the No. 34 overall player.

Saban provides update on Hall’s future

On Tuesday afternoon, news broke that Hall was no longer included on Alabama’s official online roster. At the time, we were unsure of what that meant for Hall’s future with the team, but Charlie Potter of BamaOnline reported that the receiver’s removal from the roster was not a mistake.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and we got more clarification — or at least we think we do.

During a press conference that evening, Alabama head coach Nick Saban was asked about Hall. His initial response made it seem like the former five-star’s absence might not be permanent after all, even saying Hall was suspended for a violation of team rules.

“He is suspended from the team for violations of some team rules, whether they’re academic or whatever. It doesn’t really matter,” Saban told reporters. “Everybody has a responsibility and obligation to respect the principles and values and do what they need to do. They’re all there to help them be more successful, so to respect those and do those are always really helpful.”

But soon after, Saban was asked what opportunities would Hall have to earn his way back onto the team. From the words — and more importantly, the tone — of Saban’s response, it seems as though Hall’s career in Tuscaloosa might officially be coming to an end after one season.

“Well, he already had that opportunity once, so I don’t know what his plans are for the future,” he swiftly responded before moving on.

We can safely assume that Hall’s removal from the online roster was, in fact, not a mistake.
