Who will be Alabama’s No. 1 receiver?

We spent the entire 2021 offseason assuming that Metchie was going to be Alabama’s No. 1 receiver. Once he got healthy, he did make a great Option 1B to go with 1A, which was Williams. But no one really saw the Ohio State transfer turning into a superstar in Tuscaloosa.

In fact, a lot of people were viewing him in the same way they’re viewing Tyler Harrell now.

Williams was expected to be either a starter or key rotational piece whose presence would stretch defenses vertically and open up opportunities for others. Instead, he finished with a similar target share to Metchie while also leading the team in receiving yards (1,572) and touchdowns (15).

Entering fall camp in 2022, we find Alabama’s wide receiver room in a similar situation.

Like last offseason with Metchie, we assume Jermaine Burton will be the top option in the passing game. In many ways, the Georgia transfer reminds us of the now Houston Texan, and considering he’s (from everything we know) healthy entering this fall, assuming any sort of top role isn’t unreasonable.

But there are other options to consider, too. It’s possible that Burton could find himself in a 1A-1B situation similar to what Metchie did with Williams. Now, we’ll look at who some of those options might be.
